coughing?!

ok so my son has had this cough for 2 days now (according to my dad) and its starting to worry me

its like dry and it looks like it hurts him

he coughs like 5-6 times each and i dunno


i gave him a puff of his inhaler.... to see if it helps
no fever nothing

he does have GERD but takes medicine.. and has never done this before



called the triage nurse.. she said to bring him in for their night shift


what do you guys think?

Is he vaccinated?

Is the cough happening in conjunction with anything else (sleeping, eating etc)? Does he seem to have a hard time catching his breath afterwards? Does he cough till he vomits?

It could be the reflux too

I would take him in and make sure he doesn't have RSV.

My son has gotten a cough like that a few times and they said it was "reactive airway disease" which is triggered from a virus or really any other illness. They put him on steroids and nebulizer treatments with albuterol. My son also has silent GERD but never had the coughing while taking meds.

my daughter just turned 6 months yesterday but about 2 wks ago she was coughing alot! she woke up numerous times through the night and it lasted 2 wks,he doctor said not to worry if it was just a cough with no fever or anything like that,but she finally got better idk what it was bc it was just a really bad cough and that was it,so i dont think its anything to worry about unless he gets more symptoms and/or a fever

yes hes vaccinated. he was coughing before i nursed him and after.

he gasps a little like inbetween coughs

no vomit that i know of

if he continues to cough im going to take him to the dr..


hell im afraid to take a nap while he naps...

is it barky sounding? it could be croup....that can occur with or without a fever.

just keep an eye on it and if it worsens or if you get too worried just take him into the pedi

maybe he has allergies? lots of times babies cough with allergies.......

I would seriously take him in. He needs to be checked for RSV, Pertussis and Flu. AND being so young they will probably do a chest x ray to make sure his lungs are clear.

Seriously, a cough is nothing to mess with. This is including a cough with NO other symptoms. The few times my son has had a chronic cough like that it was taken very seriously by his pedi and ER staff. If it were me, I would be at the Dr's now.

The thing with RSV and flu is that they can't really do anything unless the child is having breathing difficulties or dehydration, which sucks  

It's likely not pertussis if he's been vaccinated, but that they will treat with antibiotics.

OP good luck! It's never going to hurt to have him checked out. Let us know what the urgent care says. I hope he feels better soon  

so urgent care thinks its just his GERD
but they said if hes still coughing like he is on monday to take him into his Primary and see what they want to do.

Aww....well I'm glad it's nothing serious
