Carseat Q

posted 6th Nov
I am curious to know if your carseat only have strings on the base.
Mine only has on the base but I don't feel it secure bc the seat wont stay still, it kinda moves to the sides. SO says that it would stay still if both front seats push it back. I haven't taken Emma out bc I don't feel it secure; The car seat has a string in the upper part but if I attach it to the upper part of the back seat, the seat stays leaning to one side. I read the instructions, of course, but it doesn't say anything about the upper string, nor to secure it with the front seats.
TIA ladies.

What do you mean string? Like the latch system? What car seat is it?

you can use the seatbelt to install it, LATCH isnt better just supposed to be easier. It isnt as secure in all cars though.

Is it RF or FF?

I have the latch system, and the Safety 1st Alpha Omega Elite. I couldn't get it tight enough with the latch system, so we ended up using the seat belt and rolling a towel under the one part of it. Also, we took the base off of it to get it reclined correctly.

Rear facing. As a matter of fact I am using both, the seat belt and the latch system

you cant do that. You can only use one or the other. It puts too much stress on the seat and in an accident it could fail

Is it reclined right? You dont use the top tether for RF only FF. You might need to put a knee on the seat and push it down as you tighten the tether...

I think it was a bad buy

Use just the seatbelt, i hate the latch on cosco seats. Put the seatbelt thru the belt path and click it, then put all your weight into the seat and pull the seatbelt all the way out from the retractor and release it. When it is all the way back in pull the seatbelt as tight as you can while pressing your weight into the seat. That should get it nice and tight so it doesnt move.

You also cannot use the top anchor strap on those seats rear facing

Yes it is reclined. I am only using the base tethers

The seat has not been crash tested with both latch and the seat belt. It would be better to use one or the other than risk the seat failing in a crash. I don't think you can use the top teather when rear facing, it is for FF seats unless it specifically states that it can be used for rear facing...like Britax or Radian.

If you can't get the seat tight..you aren't doing it right and you should take it to a police department and ask a certified car seat technician to install it correctly.

Good luck.

I had that seat and it gets tight enough with the latch and without it if you're installing it correctly.

I don't think so - I LOVE that seat! Don't use latch and seatbelt. If you don't feel comfortable with it, take some towels with you and have a police officer do it. I did mine on my own, but then had it inspected at the State Police, and how we did it was fine!
