Don't know what to do!

posted 6th Nov
My hubby has a pit bull puppy and it kept getting into our neighbors yard so they called the pound. He's not liscenced and he doesn't have his rabies shot yet...so in order for us to get him out we have to pay at least $100 for it...not exactly money we have.
I told my husband that i would pay to get him out but then we're taking him to his cousins (where we got him) to live there. i don't like the dog, he makes me so nervous around my son. My hubby is really upset because he loves the dog. but i don't even take my son out back to play because he's out there and i just don't trust him.
Should i just let my hubby keep it here or make him take it to his cousins?
he's making me feel so guilty saying that its always my way and he never gets a say...

If you are afriad of the dog around your son, dont keep it.
Your husband should understand your son is more important then keeping the dog around, if the dog is at the cousins atleast he could possibly still see it?

We have Pit bull dogs also.

If YOU have any kind of resistance of letting your child near the dog, DONT let your LO around him/her.

I love the dogs, but there have been a few owned by my friends that I dont let around my child.

his family has always owned pit bulls. my family hasn't....so he's just telling me that i don't understand because of that...and that i just listen to all the negativity of it.
He says all dogs attack, and i try to explain the difference getting attacked by a lab and getting attcked by a pit.
I would never forgive him if anything ever happened.
and i don't want to restrict my son from playing in the backyard..

I have a pit bull..She's 11 months now and soo hyper. We are looking for a new home for her because of that. I've never owned a pit bull until we got her, and at first I was scared of her. But she is one of the sweetest and most cuddly dogs I've ever had when she's calmed down, but when my husband isn't around, I can't handle her.
I say if you're not comfortable with the dog around your LO your husband needs to understand that. I would pay to get the dog out of the pound though. I don't know how your pounds are, but here they are over run with pit bulls and not too many GOOD families want them. Just the people who are trying to make them mean or fight them.

that's exactly why we want to get him out...he's not been exposed to the fighter in him and i don't want that to happen. Plus i'd feel horrible if they put him to sleep.
I think he'd be better off at our cousin's...but my hubby is making me feel sooo guilty   saying i never liked him from the beginning and i'm finally getting my way.

That's hwo my husband was for a long time too. The only thing that changed his mind was the fact that I'm staying at my parents right now and all together, we have 5 dogs and she's chewed up the window sills. Just tell him, at least it's his cousins. And tell him maybe once the dog calms down and is better trained, he can have the dog back

Any dog can attack. I've met a lot of pittbull's and I can honestly say there was only ever one that was nasty. Most have been very sweet and lovable dogs, many even great with children. If you're not comfortable having a young dog there that's fine, but please don't blame the breed.

Hm ok...so I once was completely terrified of the breed. I mean I wouldn't walk near one without thinking it would rip my head off for no reason. And, I had nothing to back it up with other than what society has created of them. Then my hubby [boyfriend at the time] convinced me to get one. I was terrified into the first couple months of this dog...but I was determined to not make him a statistic. Raised properly, they are amazing, loving dogs. My 6 year old nephew takes bones off of him and jams his hand into the food bowl only to see my dog look up at him like "what the heck dude?..." My pit licks babies in the face while they tug at his ears and smack him in the face. All of this because I raised him right.

Moral of the story: educate yourself on the breed. They are amazing dogs and nothing of their stereotype unless put in the hands of the wrong owners.

If it is dogs in general that scare you, tell your husband that. If it is the breed, educate yourself. You may be surprised...
