Planned c section Monday What to expect

posted 6th Nov
I have a c section on monday and it is my first. What should I expect.. Anything special I should bring to the hospital and tips from mamas who have been there. I am nervous now.. Do they start iv and cath right away? when do they do the spinal how bad does it hurt? any help would be great!

Make sure your pj pants are not going to press on you incision. Get up and move asap. Bring a nursing pillow if you are going to be breastfeeding. Take stool softeners right away.

they do iv, then spinal then cath
they do the spinal in the OR along with the cath....its not as bad as you think, its just a little pressure in your back

They put my iv in when i got there, the cathater when i was in the OR. The spinal didnt necessarily hurt but it was really uncomfortable especially when they had to do it twice because it wasnt in the right spot. You dont need anything extra, my c-section was a breeze.

I had my first c-section 3 months ago and they're really not that bad. I was most afraid of the recovery, but it wasn't near what I thought it would be, just make sure you take your meds! At my hospital, they had me come in 2 hours before my c-section was scheduled, and I was put in a triage room. In triage they gave me the IV right away, and the catheter a little later I think. They give you the spinal as soon as you get in the OR. I really didn't think the spinal hurt at all but everyone's pain tolerance is different. Good luck!!

My spinal sucked ass but the recovery wasn't so bad.I just forced myself to get out of bed and walk a little whenever I could.Don't strain yourself but the walking helps the blood flow so you will heal faster.

C-sections are cake...you usually go in and get changed, they check your allergies, weight, etc. Urine sample. They will have you start your IV and cath usually about 30 min after you get there ( in my experience). Spinal is a pinch but they really try to talk you through everything they are doing to you. Makes it easier to stay focused and not have you panic. I have had 2 c-sections and have my last planned for Jan.

Good luck.

I only took my meds for a few days when I got home b/c they made me groggy and cranky which is not something you want to deal with when you have a newborn. I dumped the oxys and just took the motrin 600 they gave me.

I know what you mean! At my hospital you have to have a bowel movement before you leave and I thought it felt like my incision was just going to rip open! That was the most pain overall for me I think was coughing, sneezing, laughing with the incision.

If you don't shave already I would suggest shaving, I didnt realize it before hand, no one told me, if you arent shaved a nurse does it with trimmers and then takes like a big piece of tape to clean all the hair off, it sucks, it would have been nice to know, you only have to shave off what you can see sitting down, the incision goes right at the hair line.
