Hispanic and Inca/Aztec/Mayan kind of just go hand in hand to me because most people who trace their ancestry to one of the many South or Central American countries could likely trace some line to the tribes.

Haven't caught up. I don't care that her prince is light skinned, I'm pissed they've got to have a voodoo priestess in the movie and that they are basically ignoring it commercial wise. Disney always does crazy shit though Mulan had a pet dragon because she was Asian.

You do realize that DIsney Pochontas was VERY loosely based on history right? She did marry a white man, John Rolfe, the guy in Pochontas II

I love Mulan! She is my fave. Such a strong female character, she beats the Huns not once but twice in her movie!!! And she saved her "prince" and her entire county. Awesome.

I can't wait for the Princess and the Frog. My daughter's 2nd birthday is in January and we are doing a Princess Tiana theme.  

About the race "controversy" it's dumb. I read somewhere that Tiana's prince is from a made-up country and is not supposed to represent a known ethnic group.

The frog princess Tiana will be the 9th of the Disney Princess line. They just had a welcome party for Tiana in Disneyland I think.

Esmerelda was a gypsy or a romani.. generally those peoples are thought to have originated in India.

No, I just think that a black Princess now just screams "omg, we haven't got a black princess yet and we don't want people to think we're racist, especially now that Disney is going to pieces so quick quick, let's make a film with a black princess". Doesn't sound spontaneous at all.

They've been doing different cultures for a long time.
Maybe it took them awhile to find one that was marketable that would work.
They did Native American.
Middle Eastern.
Half fish.
And Asian.
Why not black?
