Blood Type?

I just found out yesterday that I am A-I had to take a shot yesterday because of it. I was stupid and I didn't ask the nurse why I needed it. But now that Im not in the doctor's office I'm curious. Why did I have to take the shot because of my blood type? Does anyone know?

It's easier just to post this link rather than trying to explain it.....it's sort of complicated to explain lol

i have no clue with that blood type.
i know i am o negative and i will have to get a shot at 27 weeks
bc my baby may not be a o negative..it might have his fathers blood and if thats so then my blood will try to fight at my baby thinking its an infection and kill it
so i have to get a shot to prevent that.
but i thought that you only get that shot if your o negative bc its a rare bloood type.

having a negative blood type can make the baby sick... the shot you got will help. i think its called rhesus negative?

Thank you very much. That is very odd, I had never heard about that. But it IS a good thing to known because my SO is either A or O +. Thank you so much for the help.

Yeah this is true. I had to have shots too. I'm B- and my husband is A+

youre RH Negative, baby could easily have a positive blood type, and your body would attack the positive blood type since it would recognize that its not YOUR blood type, if you two crossed blood supplies for any reason. can cause miscarriage, not only in current pregnancy but future pregnancies if your body develops antibodies to positive blood types. the shot you got was a Rhogam shot, to keep you from developing antibodies, will make it safe for the baby and future babies. Its not a big deal, and you will get more of them before the end of your pregnancy, and one when you deliver too.

it helps when the baby is born is what they told me... and that if ur blood mixes with the babys then ur blood could try to kill the next baby you have cuz it would build up emunidies(sp?) to that type of blood... i had to get the shot to and it hurt.. bt my mother-in-law gave it to me shes my nurse... and it just helps with the whole if ur blood and ur babiesblood gets mixed....
