how much from each boob?

when my milk came in i developed a very painful clogged milk duct in my right boob. i had a fever, body aches, the whole nine yards so i went to the doctor to get it checked out.

my entire boob was so painful i could barely touch it without crying, let alone put my daughter onto it to let it drain, so my doctor said i had to get the milk out one way or another (duh) so i've been pumping the best i can and i usually get about 5oz from my boob every three hours, and its messing with my other boob because after my daughter is finished, i still have to pump between feedings and can get about 3oz from my good boob.

so my question is, on average how much should i be getting from each boob? is it the whole supply & demand concept that comes in here?

i feel like i'm constantly milking myself!

pumping is not a good way too tell how much your LO is getting, inless you are feeding off one side and pumping the other, you dont let down the same, some peole dont let down at all for a pump, plus baby drians the boob better

It's so variable, it's really hard to say from person to person. I've always made 3-5 ounces total and my son gained weight like a champ, but then I know of people who made way more milk and their babies didn't gain as quickly.

But yeah, I only get 6 oz between both, every 4 hours (and between nursing sessions, which have been olympic-style marathons lately)

she's gained 4oz and she's only 8 days old, so i'm not too worried about her weight lol

You may want to see a LC if there's a free one in your town or at WIC (if you're on it).
