Contraction update

posted 5th Nov
So I posted earlier saying I was having a lot of menstrual-like cramping with my BH contractions... . I think these contractions are getting worse...

I don't want to leave work and have it be nothing... I don't know what to do. I've been timing them, and it's kind of scaring me because they're less than 10 min apart... but varying from 5-8 min apart individually (not coming more often, but just varying by a minute or two each time), and all lasting for about a minute. They also definitely come whether I've been sitting or standing or walking... and I've drank a crap load of water and it's not helping.

I feel like the pain should be worse though. I mean they hurt pretty bad and I am kind of breathless during them, but I feel like they should be crippling to actually be labor pain... you know? I know I have a high pain tolerance, but I feel like I'm kidding myself if I think real contractions are this tolerable.

Just keep timing them. Trust me, you will be able to tell when they are real. I would have to stop talking if I was at least, to breathe through them. If you are worried about it, go in and get checked. Have you been checked for dilation yet?

lol yeah yesterday... that's the thing. I was soft (he didn't give me a % effacement), but not dilated. I was also having the regular BH yesterday during my NST, but they were NOT cramping like this at all. I feel like there's no way I progressed that much since yesterday...

Here's what I've timed so far. The black line was when I was away from my desk for a while dealing with my employees so the frequency wasn't right because I missed tracking a few. They definitely continued when I was up and around though, but I was still able to walk and talk and everything. Also the one I circled, I forgot to hit the stop button in time, so it ran over for like a minute. I'm not very good at this timing shit because I'm trying to work at the same time.

I really don't think they hurt badly enough... but I'll go call. I'd rather not do it at my desk where people are listening lol because I don't want to start a big ruckus over nothing.

I just had quite possibly the most embarrassing phone conversation ever with some on call Dr from L&D. She basically told me since I was able to keep talking to her through the pain, that it wasn't bad enough. She said that "after having 3 of my own kids, I can tell you that labor is extremely painful"... NO SHIT WOMAN.

I tried to explain to her that I was mostly just worried because they were actually timeable and so close together and that there was actually pain involved, which there wasn't yesterday. She told me to wait for a couple hours to see if they get worse or closer together. She told me that since it's my first, it won't just pop out quickly so I shouldn't be worrying. She said I WILL (she didn't say may, she said will) have 10 hours of excruciating contractions before I am dilated to 10 cm.

I told her that if they get a lot worse, I won't be able to drive myself... that sure opened a can of worms. She wanted to know why I have no friends or family that would drive me to the hospital... I've relocated for work twice and my ex of 4 years dumped me as soon as I told him I was pregnant. I have no friends because all my friends do is drink and party and I don't really even talk to them anymore. I practically started crying to this stupid Dr on the phone. She was mad because she said if I had to take an ambulance, they wouldn't take me to that hospital because it's not the closest one. I told her I can't go to the nearest because I'm high risk and they don't have the doctors and stuff that I need. She said it was irresponsible for me not to have a different backup plan.

So I'm just going to sit here at work until 10 and see if I can still drive myself home at that point... If I went in now I'd have to deal with her stupid ass anyway. I just hope he stays in there until my mom comes on Sunday, because I can't handle this shit anymore.

Sorry, I would call and report that woman also for being so rude. I had 2 false alarms with my first because you've never experienced it before. I now know true contractions and what they feel like. If you can't drive home, get one of your employees to drive you home. Better safe than sorry. Sorry girl you are in this position. So if you would go into labor now, you have no one to go in with you? Do you still talk to your ex? Isn't he coming to the delivery?

you are not irresponsible at all girl. Fuck that woman. You are being perfectly reasonable and are making the best decisions you can. I know you are worried about work and all, but if you need to go in, even just to get sent home or back to work, just do it. I think you are doing all of the right things and I'm sorry I can't be there to drive you. I may be all alone when I go into labour too if my hubby is at work and it could take him hours to get home, and I really dont have anyone else to drive me either - so fuck it. I'll call an ambulance and you should too, no matter what anyone thinks. All that matters is you get to the hospital safe and sound. way smarter than driving yourself.

That woman is a RETARD.

My water broke ON IT'S OWN at 37 weeks...and 16 hours later and no dilation, I had to have a C-Section.

Just because you can talk through the pain doesn't mean squat.

Supposedly before they gave me pitocin I was having HIGH STRONG contractions but I didn't feel a shitting thing....until they gave me the pitocin...
Then I was in horrible pain!

Go in.

No he wants nothing to do with me or the baby really... he lives over 4 hours away in a different state. That's a long story...

I have some acquaintances in the area... mostly coworkers. There's no one that I would have in L&D with me though. So yeah, I'd be alone. I made a post about this a few months ago, and everyone on here was all like "It's not that big of a deal... I was alone... quit complaining"

That woman is wrong on many many counts. (What a bitch by the way. TOTALLY unprofessional and worth complaining about IMO)

They cant predict everything about your labor based on other people. When they put my balloon in during my induction, they told me it would take at least 8 hrs. It was out in 1.5 hrs. When they broke my water bag, they told me to expect another 8 hrs at least. I was pushing in 4, and the only reason they were even ready is because I put up a fuss and told them I KNEW I was ready to push when they told me I couldnt possibly be there yet.

You know your body better than them. If you start to feel like it deserves to be checked, ignore her and demand to be checked.

are you ok, Alyssa? you have my number in your phone, right? call me if you need to.

My contractions were bad, but not excruciating or crippling. and they never came with any regularity..they would go from 2 min apart to 5 to 8 to 2....I finally went in after 8 hours of it, and they admitted me. They let me go naturally, and nothing changed, so they gave me Pitocin, and it still didn't make them any worse or regular, and then she went into distress after 19 hours, so they had to take her. Later, they said I had an incompetent cervix, or something, and she was never going to come out on her own.

I would go in and get checked, especially with your condition. The worst that will happen is they will send you home.

Yeah... doctors tend to think I'm overreacting when generally they end up being wrong. I had that issue when I had blood clots in my leg... I KNEW something was wrong and they kept ignoring me until my leg had visibly lost almost all blood flow. It was sick.

And I wish I wrote down that bitch's name... I would file a complaint but I don't remember what her name was.
