not being supportive *mini vent*

posted 5th Nov
My mom is not being very supportive about me wanting to breastfeed my baby when he comes. In a way I agree with her cause I have a overactive 2 year old, that gets into everything in sight, and I timed myself the other day for 10 mins to see how long I could sit without getting up, and I sat for 3 mins only. I was thinking about getting a sling wrap or a moby wrap and put him in that when I have to breastfeed, but since breastfeeding babies feed every 1 - 3 hours, I will be wearing that thing all friggan day! Everytime I mention the brestfeeding to my mom, she rolls her eyes, and tells me that I wont be able to do it, and that I should just get formula and put him on it right away. She even offered to buy read made formula to take to the hospital with me. roll:

I told my mom that I want to BF cause its healthier for them, they get everything that they need from me, I wont have to spend like 100 bucks every month on formula, washing and steralizing bottles, making sure I made enough and having to get bottles when they need replacing. She just rolled her eyes. I am not even going to bother with talking to her about it anymore, but what I want to know is:

* If you had a overactive toddler and SUCCESSFULLY EBF your baby, how did you do it?

* How can I breastfeed my baby with my 2 year old getting into everything

* Is there any games or something that I can do with her, so she can sit beside me and "help"?

My mom is putting me down soo much with this baby towards the BFing, all hte gear I have, and where I want to raise my kids (my city choice), that I feel like I am failing as a mother, and just makes me want to go out and buy formula and just do that

I need some advice!

Thanks

Aren't you going to have to sit down with your baby anyway if you FF?

Sorry, but that logic makes no sense.

Bingo! Thats what I also said to her... Her reaction was "well at least you would be able to get up with him and he wouldent loose suction on your breast". I was like "mom, I wouldent be able to bend down and pick something up holding onto him and a bottle at the same time"..."whatever" <---- her reply...

She is begining to really piss me off, and its just not about the BFing and FF.. its about EVERYTHING! She is even putting down my DH all the time because he's not making millions of dollars to support his family!

Does your LO like being read to? My mom used to read to my older brothers when she bf me. They were 4 and 6 though, so that might not help. Sorry your mom is being so unsupportive though.

No she will not sit down for a story. She sits for maybe 2 pages, then shes gone.. she eats crayones, so I wouldent even be able to let her color, and she eats books too if she has one by herself

Youll have to sit and feed the baby a bottle so I dont see why BFing will be a problem. If you want to do it dont let that be an excuse not to, you can always try it and if it is not working out then switch, but dont let your Mom talk you out of it.
The next time she says somthing say OK then Mom you can buy all the formula, and bottles and get up in the middle of the night to heat it up for the baby.

I have a 3 year old she just turned 3 and she is all over the place. I and EBF and its way better than FF (did it with my daughter).
If your toddler is going too crazy just put the baby down and fix the problem then go back to feeding , youd have to that with FF anyway.

Ok, well I am going to try it and see how it goes. I guess what I can do is stock up on some super glue and glue her ass to a chair for a while so I can feed the baby, lol.

You could put her in a play pen while your breastfeed or go into a baby proof room (like her room).
