Tubs in the ears? *advice needed*

posted 5th Nov
Anyone ever had to have this with your kids? I took Kaden to see his Pedi and once again he has another double ear infection   Well he said that if he gets another one before the new year he suggest that I get tubes put in his ears. I know its not major but it has me worried. But I also know that him being on antibiotics every month isnt good either. So pretty much Im torn about what I should do. So if anyone has any advice Im very opened to it!!

I would go with the tubes.. I work for an ENT and we see babies here all the time that need them.. It is such a minor procedure takes maybe 10 mins and you will love not having to have him on the antibiotics all the time. I say it is worth it.   It will make him feel better too.

I had it done when I was little... which really doesn't help you much cause I don't remember a thing. My mom said I had tons of ear infections and my ears would leak like a faucet.. eww. So they put tubes in my ears. It obviously cleared things up. I do have slight hearing loss but I really doubt its from that since I have a sister that is deaf.

I'm sure everything will go just fine!

My brothers and I had a million ear infections as kids. My youngest brother Kai is the only one who had to have tubes put in his ears. Eh, I was talking to my mom about it and I guess they fell out.ha,

I have heard that tubes in the ears arn't bad, and as the child grows they just fall out.

Not me personally, but a friend of mine had to do this with her son. He was always getting ear infections which ended up messing with his hearing and making it harder for him to speak. Before he had the tubes put in he barely spoke. His only words were mama, dada and cat until he was about 3 years old. After having the tubes in he started speaking 110%. Just a thought.

I am a nurse and I work with a pediatric ENT doctor. We do about15-20 of these surgeries a week.. when it comes to kids with mult ear infections it is extremely helpful. Not only does it keep the kids from getting infections, but it helps improve their speech. Most of the times when the kiddos get these infections and fluid on the ears then they hear things like they are underwater. I have not had one pt come back and say they wish they had not gotten tubes, and I would do it mith mine in a heartbeat with my LO. It literally takes 15 minutes from start to finish for the procedure (they are back longer due to going under and coming out of anesthesia). Just my opinion!

Ohh wow thank you for the great advice ladies! I have been wondering why Kaden doesnt actually speak that much, but it never occured to me that it might be his ears causing it. I really am going to lean toward getting them, I just want whats best for him!

Quoting *Jarretts mommy!*:“ I have heard that tubes in the ears arn't bad, and as the child grows they just fall out.”

Tubes usually fall out on their own after about a year. If they are still in after about two years they will usually go back in and get them taken out. A lot of the time they need to be replaced after about a year anyways.. on average (in our office) kids end up getting 3 sets of tubes.
