re: Disowning your child

It'd that low?

After having to consider a choice I never thought I'd have to consider, I don't like saying 'I won't' or such things.

Its better if I just deal with it when it happens instead of devoting time to 'what ifs'.

these are people that KNOW they have a child.

you think that's low? i think that's astronomically high. to outright pretend you don't have a child at all??

it's more likely for most people to pretend to have a child for tax purposes... or to seem legit while getting hired for a job.

the percentage of women denying the existence of their child is effectively zero.

Like you could legally disown your grown child? Learn something new every day.

Well it's high for how shitty it is.

But I'm surprised it's that low with how many women I've known that's BD's denied the kids were theirs.

I could never disown my child...maybe I wouldn't be very happy about the decisions they make in life, but they are still my children and I would love them.

My mother disowned me, but to be honest she is dead to me anyway. She has mental problems and I don't allow her into my life, because there is no reason to put yourself through that kind of shit.

That's how my mom is too. I can't take it. After she insulted my child and called her ugly, I had to cut her off. It was the last straw. My brother joined the military to get away from her & is even BEGGING to go to Iraq or Afghanistan.

My sister is still living at house while my nutjob mom slowly wears away all her self esteem, it's sad how horrible some so-called parents are.

Kudos to you and your brother for getting away.

yeah, i think since being on bg, i've started to see it as "low" but statistically speaking, when you look at sheer numbers (upwards of 30 million fathers in america deny their paternity) and the fact that bad things stick in your memory more than the stories of happy adoring new fathers, it sounds about right.

If my son were a violent criminal--if he killed, raped, abused, or hurt people, then no, I wouldn't want anything to do with him. I think I'd grieve.

But I hope I will have raised him to be none of these things. If he were, part of that grief would be for my own failure.

Same here. I would disown my child if he became a child molester or rapist. I would grieve terribly too.
