4 year old with glasses??

posted 5th Nov
My neice, Kaley, is turning 4 in Feb.... She just went to the doctor's last week, for another reason, but SIL (her mom) brought up the fact thatKaley blinks a lot... So, they had her do the eye charts, and apparently her vision is pretty bad. She is going to the eye doctor next week, but the pedi said she would most likely need glasses... and eye drops (apparently she has dry eyes?)

But, my question is---how exactly do you get a 4 year old to keep glasses on? Won't they just lose/break them?

I know this a dumb question, but I asked SIL, and she said "I dunno... hmmm" so, I decided to ask you all. lol

I think they have glasses that are durable for kids/babies.

how did they know she needed glasses that young? It's not like the baby could read a chart, ya know?

Yeah they have ones for kids...i have heard a lot of parents though that do have to get them replaced quite often. I guess just try to teach her that they are not toys and are very important so she has to be careful with em...

She's 4, so she's at an age that she can listen to the parents and learn that you can't take them off unless you go to sleep or take a bath.
Persistence!

I was 7 when I first got glasses, and I broke soooooo many pairs....
Of course, my mom then fitted me for the UGLIEST pair of glasses EVER made...

I haven't broken a pair since!

The ear pieces curve around the ear to hold them on, on childrens glasses. It'll take her awhile to learn to keep them on, but once she see's that she can see better it should be okay.
The glasses are durable, but make sure she always has a back up pair just incase.

That's what I'm thinking... maybe she should get those glasses strings thingys, and attach them to the kid. lol

My son got his glasses at 19 months.
I just figure he does so good with them because he realizes he can see.

"hm. maybe I shouldn't mess with these because they are nice to have." kinda thing?

Maybe. I hope all goes well for them... they aren't exactly rich, and replacing the glasses all of the time just wouldn't be reasonable.

In the car he will get bored and take them off. He's bent them up a time or two, but they are really durable. I have to get them adjusted a lot but that's because he grows so fast.

Having an extra pair just in case is always a good idea.

Someone gave me this link a while back. I've never used them, but if they are on a tight budget these are really good deals.
