re: speech therapy

connors therapist said he can talk, he just chooses not to so were using pictures, he shows us pictures to get what he wants or we show him pictures of choices like toys and we say the word to get him to associate the word with the item.

interesting...I'm not really sure what we are going to end up doing with Shep...he can say words but isn't speaking fluently. It seems like his therapist is still evaluating and hasn't come up with a "plan" yet, but I could be wrong.

She thinks he has something called Apraxia. If you are interested to see how he is talking, I got a video of him last night, this is a great improvement, but you can see he doesn't speak like a "normal" 2.5 year old...it's in the middle:

I don't know what Connor's story is, is he autistic?

I figured he probably did talk a lot more. I remember the CP thing now from talking to you before...I think my best friends son has CP too, and he signs, and is saying a few words that only his mum understands.

I didn't even realize Shep had an issue really, until recently. The way that the milestones jump from 50 words at 2 (which I think he has) to 400 words and 4-5 word sentences at 2.5 is what made me realize, I guess.

We thought Shep had Craniostenosis or Microcephally when he was born though, so I can't help but wonder if it has something to do with that. He's never had a brain scan or anything, because he seemed to develop normally and "trend down" to fit his head.

Does Connor get frustrated? Of course I want Shep to "be all he can be" and all that, but as long as he is happy I am happy. He is getting frustrated now though.

They are getting big! I can't believe how fast it's going.

Shepherd gets really frustrated now because I can't understand what he wants. I understand about 85% of what he says, but no one else does.

Does Connor understand things? I think my besties boy understands most everything, but he just doesn't appear like he would, he's probably very underestimated.

I'm sure you are doing a great job! I really believe that our "special" children are given to us because we are meant to be together. My best friend is the best possible parent for her child, my son with OCD and sensory issues, and now Shep with his issues, and the twins who just are more hard because there are two of them- they are all mine because I'm the best match for them...
