constipated?

posted 4th Nov
I know that in the 1st week or so newborns are supposed to have a certain amount of poopie diapers. But what about the 2nd week? My LO is going to be 3 weeks on Friday. His last bowel movement was at 6 am. It's now almost 10 pm over here. His poop wasn't hard or anything, still seedy, soft & yellow. But is it normal for him not to have pooped since early this morning? Could he be constipated??

Is he breastfed? BF babies rarely become constipated, and because the breast milk is so nutritious they often can go without pooping for up to a week.

When I had my baby the doctors at the hospital told me that bottle fed babies will get less poopy diapers over time. My kiddo has 1 or 2 a day and he's bottle fed. If your baby isn't crying because he's in pain he's probably not constipated. I'm sure it's pretty normal but you can ask your doctor just in case.

what kind of formula are you using?
My daughter is breastfed and formulafed and she poops about twice a day, the doctors told me that if you maintain a balance it helps, but most likely since your son is purely formula, its just taking a little bit longer to digest the formula and hes soaking up all the nutrients. if hes not crying or doesn't seem to be in pain then he probably isn't constipated.

he doesn't cry or seem to be in pain, but he pushes all day long that his poor little face turns soo red. he really seems like he's struggling, but he doesn't seem to be in pain. he finally pooped again last night, but it wasn't as much as i thought it would be. we're using enfamil premium lipil with iron. should we try to switch it up or will he be okay?

no, thats one of the best formulas to use.
if its a serious issue, you can try getting him some baby gas drops and see if that eases it any.
we started my daughter on them and now shes going twice a day.
