Head Injury Question!!!!!

posted 4th Nov
My 19 month old fell and cracked her head on the corner of our all wood cabnets at 10:10pm.... there is a cut and swelling but no hard bump... How long should I keep her up for before letting her go to sleep for the night... I wanted to rush her to the ER but SO thinks she is fine... she cried and we put ice on it right away... and she's been playing with her sister with play dough ever since... she seems okay and her pupels (sp) are dialating egually... here are some pics....

She's fine. As long as she's acting normally she'll be ok. Keep her up for another hour or so.

That whole not letting them sleep thing went out a while ago now. (Then again the US and Australia are different)

If something is going to happen from a head injury it's going to happen awake or asleep, they usually cry so hard it tires them out anyway...

And believe me my oldest son has had so many head injuries he now has grand mal seizures from them.

Just some ice and hugs will do the trick

Aww poor guy!!! Its just way past bed time already and I wanted to make sure she'd be okay for sleeping through the night, I mean if I need to I'll wake her up every hour on the hour! LOL!

Ha ha no, just keep an eye on her while she's sleeping.

When my kids have accidents they sleep next to me even now and the oldest is nearly 10 xD.

Jon did the same exact thing back in june! but his wasnt just a cut, he bled a lot! and I freaked out and made hubby come home from work and take him to the ER. they just superglued it together basically, and gave him some meds. and he went to sleep as soon as we got home. and he was even playing in the waiting room of the ER.. made me feel stupid, but oh well!

As long as there was no LOC and she cried right away there is no reason to keep her up for any amount of time. You are monitoring her behavior and said she is acting normal. Watch her walk and talk make sure she looks right, not walking like a drunk or slurring. make sure she is seeing clearly no blurred vision. I would give her tylenol for the headache she is probably going to get. and would keep doing the ice for 15 on and 15 off until you put her down.

Thats how I've always been! She hit her head (the back) yesterday and I called the pedi... they told me that as long as she wasn't throwing up and didn't loose any motor function she was fine... but idk!! LOL!

Aw. good. They are a lot more resilient then we give them credit for. I understand being concerned. Its much easier to stay calm and give advice when its not your child.
