eating meat during pregnancy

posted 4th Nov
Im not sure if i am posting this correctly? But I had a question for you ladies out there who have been or am where im at. I am 4 weeks pregnant and been a vegitarian for four years. For my baby I will eat some meat if it is mandatory but I wanted to know... Is it?? Do i need to eat meat or could I just stick with my usual vegitarian eating habits??

I think you can stay vegetarian, but you need to take certain vitamins to make sure your getting all the baby and you need.

You can get protein and iron from other sources. No, its not necessary. Just make sure youre getting the nutrients from other forms.

I have had consistent trouble gaining any weight during this pregnancy and my doctor recommended for me to eat more meat. He said that is one of the only ways I will gain any weight.
I think it's pretty necessary.

You can stay veg. I am mostly vegetarian anyways, but while I was pregnant any form of meat was completely out of the question. The thought of it made me queasy.

If you eat beans then you should be fine because they have a lot of protein like meat has. Just continue to take prenatal vitamins so you get everything you need for your baby.

They have vegetarian cookbooks that are specifically for pregnant women, so it's definitely possible to continue to be a vegetarian while you're pregnant. You just have to make absolutely sure that you are getting all of the nutrients that you need.

I am vegan and had a vegan pregnancy obviously.   It's totally fine! There is NOTHING in meat that you can't find in a plant source.

You can still be a vegitarian, but you will need to make sure that you are still getting all the protein and iron you need, maybe take some supplements if your doctor approves them. Maybe try tofu? Its a good source of protein without being meat, and if its cooked right its really tasty.
good luck!

Make sure to take a vitamin B12 supplement to help you make red blood cells. You'll likely need iron as well (blood tests will let you know about either of these).

Other then that, make sure you get lots of protein (I had lots of peanut butter and other nuts, even though my co-worker said it would give my baby a peanut allergy because I just couldn't bring myself to eat very much meat and I don't really like beans).

Good luck!

Most of the people who are anemic eat meat. My blood tets were perfect.
