When your toddler is sick..

posted 4th Nov
What do you do for them?

Maddie woke up today with a stuffy, runny nose. She has been coughing which I am assuming is from breathing out of her mouth constantly and probably nasal drainage. She has also been sneezing a ton. She has soooo much snot running out of her nose, its ridiculous.

I've given her some Tylenol because she was feeling a tad bit warm, but wouldn't let me get her temp and I've used some Saline drops for her nose. Other than that I don't know what else I can do to help her breathe easier. She has trouble drinking out of her cup because she can't breathe and is drooling like crazy, too. lol

Daddy is bringing home a waterless vaporizer from work for bed time and I will probably steam up the bathroom and give her a bath. Any other suggestions?

Just keep pushing fluids and I make sure that my humidifier is running.

I have been rotating Isabella with the vapor bath , and the vicks baby vapor rub and it seems to have done a wonderful job! even though she has been now cough free for two days, i still am doing it to make sure it is gone 100% also lots of fluids. and using the snot thinggy for the nose, lol although she has nothing and it sounds like maddy has   poor girllie!

We don't have that vapor bath stuff. I saw it online though. Maybe I will have Matt grab some tonight as well.

popsicles are always good to keep the fluids in them. I usually give it to them in the bath because they will need one afterwards anyways! lol! I hope she feels better soon!

Popsicles in the tub are a good idea, lol

Maddie's been in bed for almost 2 hours now. She just woke up crying   Do you go in when they're sick and wake up crying or just let cry themselves back to sleep?

me myself. i would go in, but that is because i dont believe in CIO to begin with, lol so especially when they are sick. she actually spent more days in our bed last when she was sick. but she would fall asleep and i would transfer her after about a half hour or so. that is just me though, i know they are little and what not and they have to learn but i alwasys tend to look at well what would i want if i was her? or even what would i want now as an adult? i would love for my DH to come in if i am not feeling well and console me,so i would do the same for her ya know?
again that is just me though, i dont know if u do CIO on a typical ?

yeah, we do cio. she has never slept with us. the only place i can get her to fall asleep is her bed or car seat. sometimes i wish she would sleep with us. times like this when i know she doesnt feel good. i want to make sure she is ok. or times when we sleep over at others houses.. we've forgotten our pack n play before. that was a horrible nights sleep. lol

  aww im sorry
on the typical for her to fall asleep if she has been wide awake for naps and for night time sleep i have to bounce her to sleep in her bouncer. and then i trnasfer and most time it is a good trnasfer, unless i take her to soon or whatever. then it is a botched transfer, lol.
most of the time she does not sleep with us either, except once in a blue for a tiny bit but not much cause in the beginning we were always afraid we would crush her, he he and then when she got older we would put her in bed with us only if we both were in bed cause i was afraid if she rolled , out , and at the same time i didnt get into the habit of letting her sleep with us cause i was afraid she would become depend on it, lol. but last wk was the first time she was ever sick and she would wake up in the middle of the night coughing to the point of choking , and then she would have a panic attack cause she coldnt breath, so i would cuddle with her in our bed to calm her down and she would drift off to sleep (which if she is wide awake would never happen she would be to busy trying to get down and play, lol) and then when i knew she was comp asleep, (and i hadent fallen asleep, he he ) i would transfer her. IF i did fall asleep i would move her when i woke up about half hour later.
i think you should do what you feel in your heart is the best thing to do right now. you will know if its right or not. and most , just like adults, want that extra attention when not feeling well. hope she feels better soon!

I wish I had her monitor out of her room. Both pieces are in there. I'm scared to go to bed because I am afraid I won't hear her if she does wake up and starts panicking because she can't breathe   This is the 1st time she's ever been sick too, so I don't know what to do

I go in and kiss their head and make sure they don't havea fever. And, ya, now that I think about it, I get them out of bed if they continue crying and usually rock with them in the recliner. Do you have any kind of rocker?

o wait wait , i didnt mean to scare you. lol Isabella has panic attacks alot because of me   i have panic attacks and she works herself up very fast. the dr said it is hereditary when i asked when she was like 4 months? and i said it seems to me like she panics, can that be??? and he said absolutely it is def hereditary. so i said   great
i tech am suppossed to be on meds for it but i wont , i am on meds for my thryroid that is enough . when i have panic attacks i am able to get myself out for the most part after a few min, sometimes it takes longer.
try to sneak in to get the moniter? or set up a bed for you on the floor in the room with her? that way u are in the same room but not actually sleeping with her?

I have a rocker, but its in the living room. It's not like a regular rocker. If I brought her to the living room she would just want down to play. I really want one for the nursery though.
