this is so not right!!!

posted 4th Nov
Ok so I'm 27 weeks pregnant and in an infantry unit in the MT National Guard. besides all of them being completely clueless to pregnant women in the army, I haven't had any problems. But tomorrow starts our November drill training and the company is going out to the field til sunday and I talked to my section sgt and he said that he doesn't see any reason why I can't go. I told him I could find a million reasons why one of them being that it's gonna be freezing out there and my uniform barely fits me now let alone any of my cold weather gear. He proceeded to tell me that I can bring whatever I need to to make myself comfortable!! Is the jackass gonna carry all these things for me when we march out to the training site? and where exactly am I gonna pack my body pillow? I have a hard time sleeping on my soft comfy bed I can't imagine the nightmare of trying to fit my pregnant ass on a cot comfortably!!!
I have a pregnancy profile stating that I can't go out to the field after 20 weeks and listing all the crap I can't do that they'll probably make me do anyway. I'm pretty sure that half the shit they make me do is against profile regulation but I mean it's the Army so I can't just tell them, "no, I'm not doing that."
AHHHH I don't know what to do,,,, I'm so mad at them right now but I really don't have a choice. If they say I have to go, I have to go. this is by far going to be the worst 4 days of my life!!!!

Go to your OB and get a letter from him stating that you can't do it.

Those packs are heavy as hell. My ex made me try to carry his fully packed a few years ago. I wasn't even pregnant and I fell over it was so heavy.

Don't even try to push it, get the letter form your ob.

omfg. There's no way I could even consider doing that at 27 weeks! How heavy is all your gear and stuff that you will have to be carrying? Isn't that a risk if it's too heavy?

He is squeezing you out of their system - you cannot do your training, you don't pass......you are incompetent....you are not a good fit for the National Guard..........see, that is how the system rolls............and you do NOT have to like it...........they hold the red pen, and he will be using it on you. Don't think anyone will be "carrying" your load girl!!!

Once you become a Liability, not an Asset to the system..........you are packing out!

They can not violate your pregnancy profile.....they can try, but they can get in a lot of trouble for that. If your SGT isnt listening, go to your commander, if he says the same thing, go to your doctor because you are not supposed to go out and do that stuff.

If you are by vehicles, you are not supposed to breath in the gas or be in the motor pool after a certain amount of weeks too.

In this situation, you can tell the Army no. They just dont have much experience with prego women. But I am not sure how it is in the Guard, but when I was active, and they tried to make me do things, I just told them its not gonna happen and I'd go higher if i had to.

They can't "squeeze" you out. You're on a contract even with National Guard.

yeah it's a ton of shit to carry and once I get out there it's not like I'll be able to do any of the training, but we got our alert orders for deployment so all of this is necessary training that they don't want me to miss..... I think I'm gonna have to go to my midwife tomorrow and get a damn note..... ugh,, I didn't wanna be the whiney knocked up girl in the unit but shit I'm not superwoman!! and after reading some of your replies I don't feel like I'm being such a wuss by not wanting to go out to the field. thanks ladies

its not being whiney...its being straight forward on what you can and cant do.

I know how you feel, the need to do things anyway because otherwise you are the "typical girl"

I worked over 16 hours a DAY all the way through my entire pregnancy being active. (my unit deployed, left only me behind and I was in the middle of running the Bridage Legal office and the witness for the murder trial going on, all without help. It was all left up to me, so sure, I could have went home at the half day mark like I was "supposed to" but there was no way anything would get done, so...I stayed) So I know how it is....but you do have choices and rights, especially pregnant. So you are deploying with them when they go?? Thats gotta be tough especially if your baby will still be real young.

yes, I plan on deploying with them in september... 7 months isn't a whole hell of a lot of time to spend with my brand new baby but I figured I'm just gonna have to make the most of it while I can... The way I see it is when I come back I'll be much more financially stable and be able to provide things for my baby boy that I wouldn't have been able to otherwise.
