childbirth classes *poll*

posted 4th Nov
the SO and i have signed up for childbirth classes but i'm still on the fence about weather or not it will really be worth it. i've heard from some couples that have taken them that they were no help during labor. anyways.. i wanna know how many mamas on here took them. if you answered that they weren't helpful, tell me why! TIA

i think if we had gone to all of them (we missed the most important one) it would have helped alot....but i went into labor before we had a chance to make up the one class we missed....they help you understand your body sooo much better....atleast they did me...

A family friend is a nurse and has delivered several babies gave us a crash course on what goes on. It helped in the sense that I knew terms and was not freaked out by much. I got an epi so I did not need to do the breathing techniques until in between pushes.

i took them with my first and they were wonderful.

i would have taken them with my second too but...between my first and my second i became a childbirth educator...so i'm my own walking class. lol.

They didn't help AT ALL. The breathing techniques they taught me didn't work and when I got to the hospital the nurse told me that if I kept using that technique, I was going to pass out from hyperventilating!! The class was a huge waste of time for me..

the class i took taugh slow breathing techniques...and told us to NEVER do the fast ones like that....they taught us ways to ensure we were breathing at the right speed...and the noises to make to help release the tention and help you relax....i did great when people stayed out of the room....i could breath through them...soon as they started coming in and out i couldnt focus enough to continue...to many changes in energy....i was at a birth home also...they have AMAZING child birth classes

I eventually came up with my own slow breathing technique and that worked really well... I just can't believe a RN was teaching a technique that doesn't work!

yeah thats crazy....i loved having the midwives...i trusted them SOOO much more than the doctor i was with....the they had a lactation consultant there too and so my first night home when i completely freaked out cause my son was screaming and i couldnt get him to latch i had someone to call and help me through it at like 1 in the morning....lol

Didn't take the classes, but I read and read and watched videos and sought out information every day. If you don't do that, you might benefit from a class.

I had my baby at home, so I didn't need to have someone teach me about the epidural or how to breathe. jmo
