Let's talk VBACs

posted 4th Nov
I'm due with my 2nd child in May 2010. With my 1st I had a c-section due to pre-e. Assuming I don't have any complications this time I want to try for a VBAC, I think. I keep going back and forth. I would want a VBAC so I heal faster and am better able to take care of my son (who will be 23months old) and the new baby. Also because my husband is a teacher and will still have 3 weeks of school left so I will not have any help right away. Also so I will only be in the hospital for 1 day vs. 3 days. BUT, I just keep thinking that it would be so much simpler to just have a scheduled c-section so my husband will know when to request off and so I can arrange for child care for my son (I'm a SAHM) And I keep thinking what if I go through all the labor just to end up with a c-section anyway.
So, if you had a VBAC or repeat c-section could you share your experiences and the reason you made your choice. Please ladies let's not bash one another for our choices either!!!!

i know here you have to be atleast 2 yrs pp to even attempt one (i think you'd be close enough) they also make you stay 3 days to watch for anything underlying (tears in teh incision, ect)

That's your decision. The hospital here doesn't allow them..

If it helps you feel any better, Michelle Duggar has had like 13 successful VBACs lol.

My situation is the same. My son will be 25 months old when this baby is due and I'm a stay at home mom who had an emergency c section with my first after being diagnosed with pre-e.

I'm getting another c section because of all the problems I had the first time. I say go with your gut. Do what you think is best for your health and your baby's health. For me it's safer to get the c section. Luckily this time I'll have help after this surgery unlike my first. I'm looking forward to the lil extra help.

I hate that hospitals dont allow them.
It's your body, your baby, and your choice.

I personally am way too big of a wimp to try a vbac, but if i wasn't i totally would.

I had a repeat c-section. My hospital doent like to do them. I was ok with that though. I think I'd healed better and faster this time around. I was only in the hospital for 2 days.. went in Thursday @10amand left Saturday @1pm. We liked knowning when he was coming cuz my hubby was able to take leave and be with me. He accually had enough time built up he got to stay home with us for almost a month.

I had a VBAC 10 weeks ago. I LOVED it. Best experience of my life. I was also 23 months PP. I wanted a VBAC because I plan on having a lot of children, and I didn't want a bad decision I made (inducing too early) at a young age to ruin that.

I went 5 days overdue, and yet, I couldn't have been happier! My recovery was quick, even with a 2nd degree tear. I'd much rather do that again than another c-section!

My first born was over 10lbs, and I often think about trying for a vbac next time, although if the next baby is near his size or larger, schedule me for the OR.. I had a wonderful c-section experience the first time. My birth canal just doesn't have room for the babies my uterus likes to grow

That makes sense too!
Many doctors limit you to 3 children if you do repeat c-sections.
I only want two though, so im fine with that haha.

I agree with you. But you have to understand where they're coming from. The legalities of it.   They don't want to be "held accountable" if anything were to go wrong...

You sign a waiver before you go into teh OR that they're not held accountable
What's the difference. Lol. I know what your saying but you have to know what I am to! haha.

They can seriously do that? What happens if you have more? They refuse to see you?

I had a VBAC. It was the best decision that i ever made. After a very horrible first birth experience,I was determined to have a VBAC if it was a safe option. I did lots of research and found out what hospitals near me where VBAC friendly and then went looking for a doctor that was also VBAC friendly.I had a great VBAC experience with my second child.
I was hoping to have a second VBAC with Evan. Hospital policies in my area had changed greatly. I had a c-section scheduled for his due date, hoping that my body would get with the program prior to that. It did not happen-and he was born happy & healthy via c-section.
If things happen that do not allow you to have a VBAC, just remember that in the end a healthy baby & mommy are what is most important.
