Pro ana/mia sites...

So today I ran across a pro ana/mia site (pro anorexia/bulimia). It didn't settle with me very well, I mean, to each their own, but personally I don't think that there should be things like this that promote destructive lifestyles. I would be appaled if I caught my daughter looking at "100+ ways to purge" and articles of the like. I know that we can't controll the media, but what do you guys think? Should websites that promote a destructive lifestyle be allowed? Keep in mind that these diseases do kill people.

I am against those sites but they have a right to be out there. If we start to censor one we will start to censor all. It is a parent's job to monitor their children's internet usage.

I've seen those sites before and they're disgusting, but sadly, there's not much we can do about the content on the internet.

I believe they should be allowed to exist, sure. I believe a Christain site should be allowed to be created and i'm sure there are plenty of people in the world who believe it kills people. Freedom of speech I <3 thee.

Sounds like life to me...
And if my daughter were looking up 100 ways to purge... I've got a bigger problem on my hands than "the media".

It won't ever be possible to take down every pro ana/mia site and I think they technically can't force them to, but I don't know for sure.
Parents need to be monitoring their children's internet usage in the first place.

True. The site brought up this point in that most eating disorder patients come from authoritative parents.
PS I don't have a daughter, I was just using that as an example. My son is only 9 months.

Eating disorders are about control. You have the ability to control something in your life. I definitely understand why a person with a controlling parent would have a eating disorder.

This is one of the sites that i found. Has a wealth of imformation. It is a recovery site but all of the tips and trincks from other sites are poster for your viewing pleasure.
