What the hell happened...

Correct me if I am wrong, but last time I checked there is supposed to be a separation between church and state right? So then why do states keep repealing same-sex marriage laws? I mean seriously, it is 2009 not 1959, when are people going to start to understand that we don't pick and choose who we fall in love with, love pics us. I know this has been said a billion times before, but it is so true that "Marriage is a human right, NOT a heterosexual privilege."

Not really sure what the point of this post is other than why people really can't separate church and state....I actually think it's more of a vent than anything, mostly because I have many close friends and family that are gay and want nothing more than to be allowed the same privileges that any straight couple gets.

Becaue the government is starting to control everything we do!

But I think some reasoning behind it, is because marriage started out in the church?? It's origins are quite religious...

Because Christians think it's their god given right to control everything. (not all of them, but the one's in the government definitely think this way.)

Than why is it part of government in the first place? If it's religious, then it should be there to begin with, for anybody.

I completely agree! I think that it is ridiculous.

Because thats always been the definition of marriage. Marriage is a religious ceremony, period. The bible says its between a man and a wife. The only reason government got involved in marriage to begin with is because its a way to track people and their name changes and to make money off of the licenses...

They should take the word marriage out of the government completely and make it so everyone has the same rights under a different name.

But there was marriage before there was Christianity (ancient Greeks got married, ancient Egyptians got married, etc.) so that's not a valid argument for them to use.

Why would opposite sex marriage have to change to? If same sex want rights, fine. But why would it have to change for everyone?

There was still religion, Christianity isnt the only religion out there...

And that is one reason we should and do have separation of church and state....not that anyone actually follows it

Because if you don't, then you still have religion in the government. Here are your options:

Give gays the right to marry, same as everyone else and just live with it because it's not like it's taking anything away from you.

or

If you think Marriage is a religious institution, then take the word marriage out of the government, it should be there in the first place if it's relgious, and just make everything thats "legalized" a civil union and give everyone the same rights.

The term marriage is not a legal term it's a religious term. I believe that in many states that made gay marriage illegal they can still have civil unions that declare them husband and husband or wife and wife. But many insurance compaines do not accept civil unions which is why many people were pushing for gay marriage. I just don't get how a gay couple marrying impacts any one elses marriage. I think it's time christians start practicing the acceptance that they preach!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
