you can just tell them how mommy doesn't think it's safe and maybe distract them by showing them how to wash their hands the right way so they don't get sick..in that case they won't need the shot... I really don't know b/c my kids aren't that age yet so I've never had to deal withsomething like that!! Good luck!! I hope someone can give you awesome advice!!

Tell them that you believe it is not safe enough for them to have yet. That you guys are practicing other safe measures to protect them, ie good handwashing, coughing into your elbow.

Maybe explain that sometimes vaccines are not healthy for them to have since it is not natural, but mommy makes sure she knows about each shot they receive.

I think if you discuss safety concerns, they may pass that on to other children who did get the vaccine and scare the other kids. I would simply say that there are other ways of trying to prevent getting sick, like washing your hands often, etc and make sure they understand that is what you would like them to do instead.

I am glad i don't have to explain to kyler why he isn't getting his, he is too little. I dunno what i would say. but good luck grl! u will do great. but yeah i don't think it's a good idea this year to get the h1n1 shot...but that's my opinion that the kids will be guinea pigs

Can't really come up with anything that you could tell your boys. The H1N1 vaccine is just that a vaccine, just like seasonal vaccines that have been around for ever. Children are becoming deathly ill will this virus and there is a vaccine to give them immunity, why would parents NOT vaccinate their kids?? The virus in the injection form is DEAD and you WILL NOT get ill. You might get a sore arm but not H1N1. Even the Nasal Mist is such a weakened strain that you won't get till. Nasal gives immunity right away and the protection is better than the injection. Frankly we are doing an injustice to our innocent children by not vaccinating them.

The seasonal flu vaccine has not been around "forever". Not even close. I think we are doing parents and children an injustice by hyping everyone up, and fear mongering them to "quick, run out and get your vaccines or you will DIE!"

I told my daughter that we were getting her the vaccine and after arguing with hubby over it for 4 days he brought up some very valid reasons not to, so we decided against.So you can imagine how confused and concerned my poor daughter was.We rectified the situation by explaining how hard it was to decide and why.We said that there were many kids that had really bad things happen to them after getting this needle, and that if we practice good hygiene and keep our distance from people we could keep from getting it.It seemed to satisfy her.I respect either decision parents make, this is hands down the hardest decision we have made.After 16 days with the H1N1 my 12 month old is finally better-I wouldn't wish it on anyone.
