Wedding

Me and my fiance have been undecided on how we are going to get married. Originally we were planning on getting married in his father's back yard with some family around and having a close family friend who is a pastor officiate. Well, I had decided that I wanted to invite my dad (from CT) and my grandpa (from FL) to come whenever we have it. And my fiance was a little upset b/c he wants to keep it as small as possible. Well, as it turns out, his step sister and her guy just got engaged so they are going to do exactly what we were planning on doing and now my fiance doesn't even want to get married at his dad's house. Not a big deal to me, for me it's all about the two of us, I don't care how it happens. But he doesn't want to do the same exact thing that they are doing, and they are rushing their marriage and the date for them is set at Dec 12th. So I decided that for me and him we could just take our son up to the courthouse and say our vows and have that be our thing. My only concern is my mother. She would be so heartbroken if I didn't invite her. And I mean, I might. But whenever we do go, I want this to be about the two of us, I don't want to have to worry about anyone else. Does that make me a heartless bitch? I love my mother dearly and I know that we will need a witness so I will probably tell her when we decide when to go, but I'm not 100% certain. I'm so confused.

Invite your mom to come ....


We did the whole courthouse thing. My sister, her best friend, my niece and Chris' brother was there.. That was it. Than we went to the beach and out to dinner to celebrate ..


3 days later I found out I was pregnant lol..

We didn't need a "witness" at the court house, although we had some. You have all the intentions. People were pissed about the way we did our wedding, but they got over it. They are not in our marriage, they are not there everyday. My one aunt told me she was going to crash our court house wedding cause she wasn't invited. She got over it. I would talk to your fiance about having your mom and his dad there. My cousin also did the courthouse and she didn't have anyone there, not even her mom. I asked her recently if she regrets that and she said the only thing she doesnt regret was that no one took any pictures of them. So yeah, you are on the right path.

Yeah, I do at least want pictures. And I want her there, but I want this to be completely about me and him. And of course Evan will be there

Is he ok with your mom being there? And why did he get upset about your dad & grandpa if his family was going to be there?

He hasn't met them at all and he said he doesn't want it to be this huge thing. And I don't either. If we were to have it at his dad's I'd have about at least 8 people and he'd have maybe 2 and I know that isn't a lot but he wouldn't feel comfortable and neither would I. I mean yeah, I want my daddy here and all, but I doubt he'd even be able to make it anyways. This is the man who made up an excuse of not being able to make it to my high school graduation. I'm sure that he would be ok with my mom comming if it was just her and maybe his dad. He just doesn't want a ton of people there, even if they are family.

Sorry I must have read it wrong, I thought initally it was just his family and none of yours.... Ugh, gotta love mommy brain!

I think you will figure it out. You have all the right stuff going on and you are absolutley right, when it boils down to it, the most important thing is you and him being happy. Thats it!

haha, yeah, I get mommy brain all the time! I didn't fully explain it in the op though so it's my fault on that one. I am thinking we will take the plunge after Christmas but before newyears. Or heck maybe even on new years day

Do it new years eve so you can claim married on your taxes!!!!

Is it really better on your taxes? I heard that a single mother gets more back. But I really want to be married before New Years day.

Well, I don't know much but when I did ours this year, I calculated ours separatley and then together. I think together we got maybe a little more... so idk.... I think with us the house helps us the most, not being married... lol.. but you can use it as an excuse to get married earlier, lol...

haha, yeah. I don't think I'd need an excuse. I was really the one dragging my feet, he wanted to be married already. Heck one day he told me that we could go to the courthouse that day. Thinking back maybe weshould have.. haha.

I know here you have to have your license for at least 24 hours before you get married. And it lasts for 6 months. And we had to have an appt to get married, not just walk in. You might want to start planning ;-)

Well I looked online and I called and there is no waiting period. If you are under a certain age then there is a 3 day waiting period. But we are cool there.   The only thing left to do is pick a day and pay them.
