Breastfed for 12 years

posted 4th Nov
That is what the headline is going to say with a picture of me and Mustafa
He hates regular milk, even when warmed with a little bit of sugar. He makes the funniest faces like it is so nasty and I'm a freak for giving it to him.
Crap, what am I going to do when I feel it is time to really start weaning?
Now I'm just trying to get him to take it so that when my DH comes he and I can have one whole day together in Cairo and leave all the kids with the inlaws. I can't do that if he wont take a sippy cup of milk to make it easy on them. What am I supposed to do if he just refuses milk altogether? Not a whole lot of options over in this neck of the woods.

other animal milk? ... yak, goat, etc.

Or, next step formula? ...a milk substitute for young toddlers.

Or, screw the milk, start water, and just supplement his diet with a lot more dairy.

Goats milk, Soy, almond, and rice milk could be an option. You could try all of them until you find one that works.

Goats milk is supposed to be very similiar to breastmilk.
Ok, I know I'm going to go straight to hell for this, but have you tried a tinybit ofHershey's Syrup in it?

How old is Mustafa now? Our oldest didn't ween until around 14 months. (I swore he was going to continue to nurse forever) but my husband took him away to my SIL's without me for a whole weekend and he never asked to nurse again so I never offered. He did continue to drink frozen milk until he was 18 months or so, and he was much better at going to cow's milk at that age. My youngest just turned onw and while he will accept cow's milk during the day, he wants nothing to do with it at night.

I've tried cow milk, buffalo milk not sure if I could get some goat milk....rice, almond and soy are nowhere to be found around here.
He's about 17 months so it isn't like he can't go 9 hours without, I just would rather him not.
Funny thing about pumping, I'd have to go to Cairo to get a good pump and my breasts are pretty anti pump

I feel u..I try getting my girl to drink Soy milk with a lil sugar or choclate in it and she still wont drink it. Used to try that too with cow's milk (before I found out she was allergic to it)

Dear god if only I could find that. Maybe I'll try the Nestle stuff that is at the store. I'm wondering if it is the same as the stuff in the US. In the three years I"ve been here, I've never bought it to see.
If worse came to worse, I could always buy the pseudo chocolate milk boxes that they have here I guess.

He's about 17 months. I don't mind feeding him at night, but really during the day I think that he should be a little less boobified than what he is.

Not sure if you have Ovaltine there, but that is at least is packed with vitamins.
Good luck, you deserve a day out with the hubby!

I am an Ovaltine freak, the orange labeled kind, found some over here one day in little baggies. I was so excited, boiled some fresh milk, put it in and BLEH tasted like straight up cardboard. Metemucil would've tasted better.
