Depends on the Dr, many start at 36 weeks.
My Dr didn't believe in checking because he said it got a woman's hopes up.

Usually around 36 weeks or so. In my case my doctors are different and unless you request it they only check it the week of your due date or if you're having regular contractions.

Some don't ever check or if they do, not until 39 or 40 weeks. Depends on the doctor. It's not really an indication of labor...I know a girl who walked around at 5 cm for 2 weeks. I think I would rather not know...it just gets my hopes up for nothing! Haha

I didnt get checked at all with my first even though I had told my doc at my 36 week appt (I was 36 1/2 weeks) that I thought I had lost my plug a few days before... He just laughed it off and said it was too early for that! I think he thought I was young and dumb until I called him two days later and told him my water broke! (On the day of my baby shower...)

With my second, and with a different doctor, she started checking me at 37 weeks.

Okay I feel really silly asking this. But I don't know what the plug is. lol.

See I am scared that if I know I'll be to excited and won't be able to do my job at work. lol

your mucus plug... AKA "bloody show" (I know...gross right)

The mucous plug is a small amount of mucous that seals the cervix (the opening of the uterus) during the nine months of pregnancy, like a cork seals a bottle. It serves as a barrier during pregnancy that prevents bacteria from entering the uterus.

As labor approaches, the cervix thins and dilates (the opening gets larger). When this happens, the mucous plug is no longer large enough to fill the opening and it eventually comes out. It may come out all at once, or it may come out slowly in the vaginal discharge over a couple of days.

Youmay know when you lose it, and you may not... I felt it when I used the RR and it felt like slime when I wiped.

The first time I was checked was last week (at 37 weeks) and that's only because I was at the hospital for an NST and I was having a lot of contractions. And then I was just checked again on monday, just for a follow up to make sure I still wasn't dilated.
