Swine Flu Vaccine

posted 4th Nov
Just wanted to know what everyone thinks about getting this for pregnant women and children. I am not sure about it but I am getting a lot pressure to get my children and myself vaccinated. I want your opinions.

I was talking to my family doctor with whom I am very close to, and he said theres no way even he n his family will get it due to the fact that its so new. Let the other people be the guinea pigs, you don't know the long term effects. After its been out for awhile and you don't hear anything bad, then get it if you want, but for the mean time, I'd hold off.  But thats just me.

My children got it (5 & 11 months) & they are perfectly fine.

I just wanted to say that because I wish more people had said it to me when I was having trouble making the decision.

I regret not getting it.. My doctor thinks if I would have I'd still be pregnant and have my twins.. But then again I heard you can still get sick..

I think honestly it's best to let the flu run it's course.

except sciencebasedmedicine is the most biased website that I have ever seen, but yes.....

Oh and my answer is that I am not. I would not if I was pregnant, either. My child is not getting it as well.

Im currently 25 weeks and my nan was having a go at me sayin i HAVE to get it. im just like i could get the normal flu and die of it! 1000's of people die of the normal flu each yeh in the UK and no one ever bothers about them or their familes but as soon as another one comes everyone start to go mad. as long as people take the correct procedures like use a tissure once and then bin it and dont sneeze all over the place ect everyone would be fine. ive also just finished a college diploma in forensic science so i see it from a science point of view as well.

That was my thought as well, but then I saw something on the news where a public official came out & said that if the vaccine would have been finished a few months earlier, it would have been combined with the regular flu shot into one single vaccine. There is too much media hype over all of it (the flu AND the vaccine). It makes being a mother (and making this decision for your children) way harder than it should be!
I don't think there is a right or wrong though. Its a personal choice, & to each her own.

I heard you dont need it unless you are a sickly person. I am never sick, I did get the flu this summer but my midwife said I wouldnt even have gotten it if I wasnt pregnant. It wasnt even bad, I would rather let my body do what its suppose to do then to inject some forign substance into my body.

I initially wasn't getting it for myself or my son (15 months) - I did all my research and made my decision. However, I kept getting this nagging feeling that I was making the wrong choice and I trust mother's intuition so I went back and did even more research, ultimately the decision that I came up with is that everything comes with it's risks & benefits and personally IMO I think that the "possible risks" of the vaccination are less concerning than the "possible risks" of either of us contracting the virus. We both have shitty immune systems and wind up sick constantly so my husband and I decided that we'd rather not take the chance. Not to mention how many people it's hitting close to me, and yes, don't get me wrong, I've seen many people infected with the swine flu and they've bounced back within 2 weeks or so but if I don't have to deal with us having it, I'd rather not - especially with my pregnancy already being high risk. I spoke with both my OB & my son's pediatrician about my concerns on both sides of the fence and they both agree that I'm making the right decision for my personal situation. Am I a little scared? Yes, but I'm more afraid of not getting it at this point.

I had the Swine Flu, and was so sick! Long story short, my blood pressure sky rocketed, due to being so sick and they had to do an emergency c-section, the babies were to early and went to heaven the same day they were born.

I got the swine flu shot about a week and a half ago, and so did my kids, and none of us had any side effects.
