I hate my sons grandmother (VENT)

posted 4th Nov
This woman is driving me nuts. My son started having a runny nose and coughing so I took him to the doctor. They said that he sounded congested and that it might be the start of croup. Gave him a shot, said he should be fine since we caught it early. Ok. I told his grandma this. Told her he was sick, that he went to the doctor, what they gave him, told her what the doctor said. He went to her house, since it was Chris's day to have him.I told her not to give him any medicinebecause he had the shot.I came to pick him up, and she says he doesnt seem like himself and that she thinks he might be sick. Uh, duh I told you that. When I picked him up, she says oh I gave him some medicine. I said uh ok, what did you give him, to which she replied, I dont know, whatever was in his bag. Im thinking WTF, how can you not know what you gave him? She doesnt remember how much she gave him either. I spent an hour on the phone with his doctor trying to figure out what to do. Im watching him and thankfully he seems fine. I want to kill this woman, i really do. And she did this after i told her not to. URRRRRGGGGG.

OMFG, I would have throttled that bitch! Why do the paternal grandmothers think they always know best and just take things in their own hands?

Thats crazy. How ignorant, especially since she doesn't even "remember" what and how much she gave him, I can't imagine an adult being so stupid, it just blows my mind, not to mention the fact you told her not to give him anything in the first place, I would have been pissed.

I don't blame you for being pissed, lord knows I would be! And no, I wouldnt send him over there for awhile either. And if she asks why tell her plain and simple "You had NO clue what medicine you gave him and how MUCH! You're not reponsible enough to watch MY child"

Hehehehe... that'll be a kick in the teeth.

Man after reading all of these posts about grandmothers doing dumb things I wonder now what my MIL does when she has our LO. My MIL is great and I know she is smarter than that, but sometimes I just don't know, at a wedding my FIL was going to give him a full bite of cake  he was 6 months old, I don't mind if he has a lick of frosting here and there, but he sure can't have an entire bite, lol.

I have other issues with this woman. Most of my vents have been about her. She is insane. I dont know how her kids have lived as long as they have. She wanted to give him cough medicine last night and told me that the doctor was wrong when he said that I cant give him that yet. Im glad I was there when she got that brilliant idea. I told her no, not gonna happen. Her response was do you really want him to suffer and be in pain because he has a cough and you dont want to give him anything? Im siding with the one with the medical degree and thats not her.

I know not all grandmas are like this. My boyfriends mother is awesome with his daughter. I just got stuck with one of the crazy ones. She thinks nick is chris reincarnated or something. Like she is getting a do over with nick.

I think when you become a grandma it is a major adjustment - as your parental status and opinion seems not to matter by your child - and that in itself is very difficult and hurtful for a grandma to experience. Up to now, she has been the Momma Bear, and her paternal instincts have been in effect for well over 20 years, and now all of a sudden she gets treated like she is stupid, ill informed, and crazy..................I just went through something similar to this yesterday with my own grandchild, I asked what she was being fed (she is 13 months old) and they said - FrootLoops, Jam Sandwich, she loves Juice, she is on homo milk now , and had 4 pkgs of halloween cadies (rolled ones) that day - and asked about real food - like fruit, veetables, etc, and they looked at eachother and said, she eats what we eat Mom - so don't worry about her - and I reminded them about sugar overload, damage to her teeth, and feedin her real fruit - using a grader and grate raw carrots, frozen peas, etc...........and today I am just wondering if she is sitting there eating Fruit Loops again - ...........................gah................am I wrong as a grandma to be concerned??

At least your concerns are valid, I don't see a problem with giving a few suggestions to your kids as far as your grandkids are concerned, lord knows some parents need it, as long as you know its their kids and all you can do is give your opinion weather they take it or not is up to them.

There is nothing wrong with being a concerned grandma. My problem is that she didnt listen to me and endangered my child.
