Mama's in the colllddd areas....

okay so i know you aren't supposed to put baby in the car seat w/ a big ol puffy coat.

so please tell me how the hell this works.
ive just been putting a hoodie on kaleb b/c it hasn't gotten THAT cold but...... this AM it sure was. i just heated up my car and ran w/ him lol.
but its going to get colder.. like much colder. he needs a coat on. but i cant put him in the carseat w/ the coat on.
how does this work.
he's 19 months. he can climb in and out of the carseat..
so am i just supposed to sit out in the cold w/ the door open blowing cold snowy air on my non coated baby while i put his coat on him as he is simutanously [SP?!] trying to climb out of the car? then repeat this process everytime we get in and out of the car? because im a fulltime working mom. we're in and out of the car multiple times per day.

i know they make carseat ponchos... ive looked into those.
they're pretty pricey though... for a blanket of fleece w/ a zipper and hood lol yeah.... and i still have to get him a winter coat... i havn't bought one yet b/c i have yet to figure out how im supposed to do this everyday lol.

last year i got him a fleece body suit.. it was a pain to get on and off of him, but he was a year younger, not a toddler that is stronger than i, so it wasn't bad, the fleece was warm for him yet still thin enough to buckle him in. but he's far to big for anything like that.

okay so help me out here. explain how this works lol.

i always put my daughter in her seat with jacket on.. just unzipped it to get it tight around her shoulders & buckle her up good.. and if its still cold in the car when you take them out you can always zip the coat up around the buckles if you do it just right

It gets to -50 here in the winter with the wind chill... Our daughter wears her coat in the car. we just unzip it if needed.

im surprised by how many ppl put their LOs in w/ the coat ON..
i was told straps need to be as close to the body as possible inorder for them to be strapped in properly

true. but the thing is when people make the straps bigger to give more room for the coat. if i put her in with her coat on, i leave the straps as tight as if she werent in a coat. if the straps compress the coat enough that it fits, then... *shrug**. i know her straps are tight enough without the coat....

Yep. The highway patrol (we bought our second carseat from them) they said DO NOT put a baby in a seat with a coat on, its unsafe and the straps are no longer secure because they arent close to the body.

With Jace, I just put her in a coat and take it off when we get to the car, and give her a blanket until it warms up. If I have time I try to warm up the car first.

lol see i wouldn't mind that if we weren't in and out of the car so much. but everyday we are in and out multiple times.

i always start my car like 20 min before i leave though lol my dad got me a remote start for xmas a few years ago... best gift evvvverrrrrr.
