Sick little boy...

posted 3rd Nov
So, my oldest, Brandon, is seven. He was fine after he came home from school and even went with my mother to pick out a birthday present for himself. Then, randomly, during chores (cleaing up the living room) he insisted his stomach was hurting and he felt as if he was going to throw up. I thought he was lying to get out of cleaning. But then he laid on the couch and I noticed how flushed his cheeks were. He's running a fever of 102 and his only symptom is nausea. Should I be concerned it may be something serious? I normally don't freak out, but Richard, my husband, said stomach pain is a sign of swine flu.

Fever with a cough and/or a sore throat are definite Swine symptoms. Sometimes that includes vomiting and diarrhea. Keep an eye on him!! May need to head to the doc in the morning.

He doesn't have any other symptoms like that, just tummy issues. I'm going to watch him through the night, as it's really not worth rushing him to the germ infested ER, but I just want input from people on whether or not I should be super concerned.

If he's not showing any signs of BAD sore throat, sneezing/coughing, bad headache... then I'd assume it's a stomach bug. Those things can come on quick! Just keep an eye on his fever..

Oh for sure, not only are there tons of germs, but the ER is usally packed at night. He'll probably be fine until the morning. Maybe just some Tylenol and a cold pack to bring down the fever for now. And lots of liquids and lovin.

Already on it lol I hate taking him to the doctor for anything he can get through without intervention. But with this swine flu crap I don't want to chance it if there is reason to be concerned, you know?

Yeah, it's scary, but mostly because of all the media hype, I think. Anyway, from what I gather, they don't do much about the swine flu unless you're having a lot of respiratory distress. One of my coworkers and his pregnant wife both just had it and they are fine now. It was gone in a week, and their 10 month old managed to avoid getting it.
