Stressed really for nothing

posted 3rd Nov
I had taken my daughter to see her pediatrician yesterday because she would cry everytime I would pull her pants up after being changed. It seemed like her legs were hurting or sore. She also had ran a temp the night before...well a low grade temp of 101 and then again during that day. So they did a quick flu test and the results came back positive for Influenza A. I asked her pedi could she have the swine flu and she said probably because she had had her shots for seasonal flu. Well they gave me a prescription for Tamiflu and also a prescription for an antibiotic because she had an ear infection in her left ear. She told me if she seemed to have trouble breathing to take her to the ER and give her her breathing treatments, she is asthmatic (reactive airway disease), every four hours. She said she most likely got it Friday or Saturday and Sunday was day one for the flu. Well I am proud to say she is not acting sick at all. I know today is Tuesday and she said the flu could last for seven days, but I feel I was stressed out about this swine flu thing for nothing. She has played all day long, no vomiting, no loose stools, nothing. She did run another low grade temp last night and later this evening, but that is it. She is eating and drinking and like I said playing. Maybe...hopefully not...I am speaking to quickly, but I was really expecting something different. And maybe everyone reacts..well I am sure...everyone reacts differently to this type of flu, but I think the media has scared the crap out of people because I was afraid especially since my daughter has reactive airway disease which is asthma. They won't diagnose her as having asthma though until she is two but she is taking the same meds for it. But anyway like I said I know I have to go to Monday for her to be completely well, but so far she is doing well. But technically she has had the flu since Sunday and tomorrow is Wednesday. So I am counting down to Monday. I really just wanted to post this for anyone who is scared or nervous that there are some kids who get the swine flu and don't have to be hospitalized like the news...well at least the news here...tries to make it seem.

Thank you so much. I actually have been feeling good. I have been keeping an eye out though because her pedi told me as soon as I feel sick to get to my doctor so that I can get some Tamiflu.

It's getting scary. I'm watching the news as we speak and there is a 26 yo girl who died in my area. She didn't even fall into the risk category and wasn't eligible for the vaccine yet. I have an 8 week old baby and an 8 year old so I'm petrified. My husband thinks I'm over reacting. I actually posted a thread a few months ago about the H1N1 vaccine and how my family wouldn't be getting it. I'm glad that I'm not still pregnant...I think I'd be even more worried about it.

Yeah, I think I read that post. I don't think we will get it either. Her pediatrician has been trying to talk me into it since Shaunna has "reactive airway disease" which is better known as asthma. That's crazy how the same disease is called something different if the child is under two, but anyway. She was telling me how it is the same company that makes the vaccine everything is the same, the only difference is the virus used. So I told her that I think they just rushed the vaccine. So she could not disagree with me on that. I am torn, but since she has already gotten it, I am wondering would it be necessary to vaccinate her.

I think that once you have it, you have an immunity to that strand. **think** lol
