measuring big??

posted 3rd Nov
At my Dr. appointment she said i was measuring a little big. The way she said it was  you can measure a big or low average and that i am in the bigger average but not overly big?? She said i might need a another ultra sound later on to make sure the baby isn't too big. Nothing seemed to alarm her, she didn't order another ultrasound or anything?

I know i have gained weight (more than i would have liked to!) would that matter at all in measuring?

Or if my due date is wrong would it be off by a lot? like should i be expecting a baby this month?? At all 5 of my ultrasounds my baby measured up with my due date, would they really mess up this far along?

Any other mama have something like this happen?

I measured big with both of my babies, gained less weight than recommended and had pretty average sized babies in the end. Sometimes it just depends on position of the baby, amount of amniotic fluid or simply differences in how a doctor measures. I wouldn't worry about it at all.

My son has been measuring almost 4 weeks ahead for the last 2 appointments. I have an u/s scheduled for Thursday just for precaution. Did they tell you how far ahead you are measuring?

I measured HUGE with my son... at 37 weeks, I was 44cm (the equivalent of 44 weeks pg!!   ). I was even told by a specialist who did a biophysical profile that he was 8lbs 3 oz at 37 weeks... when he was born 3 days shy of 40 weeks, he only weighed 7 lbs 9oz (totally normal size). It turns out I had a TON of amniotic fluid in there... when my water broke it was like Niagara Falls, no joke.

The moral of the story... you could be measuring big due to big baby OR it could be baby's position, the way you carry the baby on your frame, the amount of amniotic fluid, or a bunch of other things. I'm sure your due date is correct if you had earlky ultrasounds. Good luck mama!

Oh ok, that really isn't anything to be concerned about. That's typical. My first son measured a week and 5 days one appointment then right back to where he should have been the next. If they really thought there was a reason to be concerned they would let you know.

I've measured big since 26wks. I'm 34 now. I always measure 2-3cm bigger than I should. I had an ultrasound at 26wks and my baby was estimated to be 3lbs1oz and in the 75th precentile in growth. I measured big again at my appointment the other day and they are going to give me another ultrasound to check for his size. I have had ultrasounds to check my fluid levels and they are always right where they are suposed to be. The nurse told me it was probably just the way he was laying. Which turns out he's breech. Was head down at 26wks. Turned breech at 28 and has been that way til now. My fingers are crossed he'll turn, but I don't think he will be able to if he's on the bigger side.

How big do they think he will be at birth?

I'm not sure yet. They didn't tell me at 26wks when I had my 1st ultrasound, I assume b/c that's still a while till you get to 40. I go at 36wks to have another, so Im sure they'll tell me then. I did the math though, and if he gains the 1/2 lb that most babies do in the last few wks he'll be around 9lbs. Which will be ok with me. It may not matter either way if he's breech and I have to have a csection. I'm really hoping he'll turn and if he does then I'll hope I can push him out!!
