Fussy Fussy :( kinda a vent..

posted 3rd Nov
So last night my LO started to get really fussy.. she's going to be 6 weeks old tomorrow. She is usually a very chill LO. She has some gas issues but we give her mylicon (sp) every once and while and it usually helps. Anywho... So at night she usually sleeps pretty well waking up twice a night to eat and then she'll go back down quickly.. last night she kept waking up and being fussy and crying and so I thought maybe she was still hungry so every time I tried to feed her again.. She'll take a little (bottle fed btw) and then start crying and didn't want it anymore. Well she fell asleep finally for a good two hours and then was up again. Then today in the morning she was fussy again and nothing I did seemed to be able to calm her. But I finally ended up being able to rock her to sleep and she stayed asleep for a good 3-4 hours and then ate a full 4ozs. Then she was calm for a couple hours then the fussiness began again and once again I tried everything and just couldn't calm her down. She is fussy right now, but the DH is trying to calm her down. what could be wrong? I'm kinda thinking its because she hasn't had a bowel movement but our pedi said that since she's bottle fed there could be days where she just doesn't go and as long as her stools are soft when she does go then she is ok. and that has been the case. I've felt guilty all day that I haven't been able to soothe her..I felt like a failure..

Thanks for reading... kinda just venting, kinda hoping someone has any advice or anything... sorry if this sounds all blah and rambling.. I'm pretty tired and just typing!

It happens all the time, even when they are older.
She could be growing, sore, anything really!
My 11 month old has days like this often.

Don't worry- it's normal!!
Babies around that age usually start to have an unsettled period (or sometimes, a few) each day because they become overstimulated and can't calm themselves yet. It usually lasts until about 3 months of age or so. My LO had hers right at 5pm on the dot for a few hours and it took a while to settle her. But it does it get better!! If you are really worried though, just see her pedi!

Good luck.

I swear the same exact thing was happeing with my LO the night before last.He wouldnt eat as much and he was just so fussy..I actually took him to the ER lastnight because i was really concerned that he want eating well..He would cry for the bottle n only eat a lil then starts crying again while hes eating..He is also 6 weeks tomorrow

it came back that its colic..

just make sure after ur LO eats, you burp her very well..
If she is crying as if shes hungry try feeding her but if she keeps crying then just carry her n put her bak till sheburps..this seemed to help my son alot..i make sure he burps good about 2 times befor i start feeding him again

Colic is such an overused term for "tummy trouble" when it's a combination of things usually unrelated to the stomach.

Don't rush to conclusions. I have read a lot on this subject because I was worried about my daughter. You can burp her all you want and it probably won't make a difference.

Here are some things to try:

1. Put baby in a dark room to limit the visual stimulation. Have some calming music playing if you wish.
2. Stay with the baby in the room- do not leave her.
3. Feed on demand but avoid too much eye contact.
4. If your baby is swaddled, swaddle them tightly.

Just basically try to limit anything too stimulating during her wakeful periods as well (flashing lights, tv, etc). Music is ok, it's just mostly visual stimulation.

Good luck!!

Thanks! I do always look at her when I feed, I guess I should settle down on that!

It's ok to do that when she's calm, but when she's really fussy that's when you should limit it (or when she's older, like mine: I she sees I'm looking at her she pulls off to smile at me and talk to me...lol)
