re: I'm looking for some pacifier education

posted 3rd Nov
I tried to get Candice to take a paci 'cause she was colicky as hell but she wouldn't take it... or anything for that matter lol.

But there isn't really anything WRONG with it, you just have to deal with weaning them from it. But IMO it is better to do that than to not give them one if they want it and they go to their thumb... 'cause it's much harder to wean them from their thumb when you can't just take it away lol. Luckily Candice didn't suck her thumb either though so I have no problems in that area. But I think it's okay to give a paci until the age of 2... past that is a little ridiculouse(sp?) IMO.

Well personally I could see up to two, but after that, yeah, crazy IMO. And every once in a long while I'll actually see 4 or 5+ year olds with a paci. Like WTF? lol

My daughter very rarely sucks on her pacifier and she will be 12 weeks tomorrow. I asked my pediatrician and she said pacifiers have been shown in research to reduce SIDS and that they are a comfort thing. My daughter would rather suck on her fingers. The doctor said finger-sucking wasn't necessarily a bad thing but I can't take her fingers away from her when she gets older like I can with a pacifier. I wish she would take a pacifier, because I want her to have something to comfort her if I can't (like in the car), but she does pretty well without it. My doctor also told me not to force it on her and to just keep trying and that she may start to like it...
