External Version

posted 3rd Nov
Has anyone had a External Cephalic Version done in order to turn a breech baby. My little guy is in the frank breech position, meaning he is butt down with his feet up by his face. I go to the doctor tomorrow.. and its obvious he still hasn't flipped.. i'm 37 weeks currently. I can still feel his head at the top   My doctor suggested that we try this in order to manually turn him so that I won't have a c section. I was just wondering if any mommas out there have tried this?? I heard it will hurt...

Thanks.

My friends cousin lost her baby due to a cord accident after hers. She said she never would have done it if she knew that it failed like 75% of the time. (meaning that even if they do flip the baby most go back to breech) But she said it was the biggest mistake of her life

I decided against the Version turning because I was scared they would hurt the baby. I'm not sure about your doc, but mine said he had to do it in an OR just in case something went wrong and they had to do an emergency section. Plus, he said it wasn't guaranteed to work or stay head down, so I just opted for the section, they really aren't as bad as you think ;).

Out of the 4 ob's at my office, only 1 would do it because it's so dangerous for the baby......I didn't have it done after I read up on it.

My daughter was frank breech at we tried an external version at 35 weeks. It hurt so bad...the worst pain every and did NOTHING. They couldn't budge her and I had to have a csection anyways. Even the meds they gave me to help relax didn't work.

Good luck though mom

I'm thinking it might just be best to leave this up to God... if he flips he flips.. and if not i'll have a c section..

I don't want to hurt my baby.. nor do I want to go through so much pain if it isn't even going to work..

Heck, even if it did work, you might still need a csection! Caden flipped himself at 38 weeks (when they said he only had a 5% chance of flipping)...and I ended up with a csection anyways.

i had to have my first child turned i refused to have a csection and i honestly did not think it was that painful but pain is completely a subjective feeling. i was 36 weeks with her and it worked she stayed head down i am so thankful too.
if you have discussed it with your doc already id say go ahead and try GL

i heard that most of them reflip after it and theres such a high risk of something happening that they do it in an ER. I wouldnt chance it. if he hasnt flipped then just have the csection.

I'm currently thinking up alllll the questions i'm going to ask my doctor tomorrow about it.... and talk to my husband. There are pros and cons to both options and I guess I really need to think it out.

I just talked to my mom and apparently my aunt had it done (to bad she isnt' around to ask her about it   ) and it worked for her.. that was like.. 18 years ago though.

blah... tough decision.
