Boy or girl name?

posted 3rd Nov
So I am having a boy and my SO and I are trying to figure out names for him. One name he likes a lot is Tate, but if we would ever have a girl some day I like the tame Tatum/Taytum. I thought that Tatum was a girls name but I have heard of 2-3 boys with this name? What are your opinions.
Is Tatum a girls or a boys name?
And am I worng for not wanting to name my son Tate if I really like Tatum for a girl?
Also, would you spell it Tatum or Taytum??

I wouldn't name my son Tate if I wanted to name my daughter Tatum.

Tatum is both a boy's and girl's name.

And I would spell it Tatum.

I don't like Tatum for a girl, but I like Tate for a boy.

Actually, I think Tatum might just be one of those names that grows on you.

I wouldn't use Tate for a boy if you really like Tatum for a girl.

BOY. It derives from a surname, which makes it, by default, masculine. Besides...all I hear is Tater and then I think of Tater tots and I get hungry.

Oh, I'm sure you will find it listed for girls. What people don't understand is that people that run these websites, 9 times out of 10, have no clue what they are talking about. You can post whatever you want on the internet, true or untrue. 99% of baby name websites are complete and utter crap when it comes to the actual origins of names and the such. A good way to know if a site is reliable is if A) it cites it sources and B) doesn't include "modern English" names on their lists, thats a big tip off right there.
