weddings?

posted 3rd Nov
When you got married... (or if your getting married) was it a big wedding with the whole white dress and suits and stuff.... or was it just going to an office and signing the papers? And were you happy with the way it turned out? I'm thinking i just want to go sign the papers and then have a fun night out. Like i'd dress nice and stuff.... but then maybe just have a casual 'marriage party' a couple of days later so that family can help celebrate and stuff. Weddings just seem like alot of money for one day. As nice as it would be to have the whole big wedding.... i just think i could save all that money and have an awesome honey moon or family holiday. Oh.... we aren't engaged yet... lol. Waiting till after Christmas.

When i got married, i didnt care for all those wedding stuff, i was jsut so happy to be with my husband that day. But my dad didnt want us to have that Vegas theme wedding... So he paid for our wedding. =)

My parents went to an office during my mom's lunch break to sign the papers x)
For her 2nd marriage, they had an actual wedding. It was all Victorian and they got married in an old Victorian town.. it was neat.

That's what i was thinking.... that maybe one day when the girls are older and we have a bit more money, we could renew our vowels and have a proper wedding then if we really want. I just don't want to skip the whole big wedding (that i used to want....) and regret it later.

We just went to the courthouse. There is NO way I could have a big wedding. I would die. I felt like I was going to faint in front of only 10 people!! yeah. So I was happy the way we did it, lol. I don't want to remember throwing up on the day..all over everyone.

20 people including us. Dressy/casual at a bed n breakfast. I didnt wear a veil, just an ivory flowing dress and my husband wore slacks and a button up.

We had cocktails, then a sit down dinner, then all sat around a gorgeous candle lit patio talking and listening to music.

Best wedding ever (imo) very romantic, very simple, and all planned in 7 days.

That sounds awesome! How did you choose only 20 people? Were they just close friends and immediate family?

Ooohh let me tell you! I watched Oprah years ago when she was talking about how the best weddings are small and intimate - anything large is for a show, 100 people you dont know, etc. Wedding should be about love, and who loves you.

I totally agree with that, I think 6 bridesmaids, a dad's friend from work, etc is all bs. I like small, intimate and after I saw that show I always thought, thats what I will do one day. Im not a flashy person, but Im a very passionate person who loves her family.

We did immediate family only, no friends, therefore no feelings were hurt (I dont have a lot of friends anyway). Went to Davids Bridal found the perfect dress, found a cake online and found a bakery who will take replicate whatever picture you bring to them, bought 20 shotglasses and got them engraved as our wedding gifts. Got rooms for all the guests at the B&B and was able to have a lovely sit down dinner because of course, it was only 20 people. It was magical, everything Ive ever dreamed of and better. Every single person I know has 6 bridesmaids, the same wedding yada yada yada. Mine was unique and special, it was also very affordable, but only because thats my taste. It really doesnt take a year to plan a wedding.

That sounds beautiful   I'd love to have just immediate family, but i come from a family of 6, then add two husbands on top of that, and then i have 5 nephews and a niece, and SO comes from a family of 5, add 2 husbands and 4 kids onto that.... lol.... it still works out big. What we were thinking, was just taking my best friend and his and signing the paper. then a few days later hiring a hall, and decorate it all nice and invite family and friends then, so they can celebrate with us. I dont deal well with stress either.... i just want it to be a nice relaxing fun day... i want good memories

Yep, that sounds great. Also, look into nice restaurants that rent a room, its really nice and fun. Even hotels in your area...there are endless options people dont even know about. I found our bed and breakfast on accident.
