monkey backpack leash/harness

posted 3rd Nov
What are your takes on it? I feel if i get one i am going to get bad looks and comments.. I was reading a womansblog about them and shehas the same pros i do...

1. He needs it because heabsolutley hates the stroller.. he screams the entie time pretty much, unless i take him out. Which means if its just me, im carrying a 30LBS kidon my hipAND pushing our huge stroller around as well.
2. He holdsour hand for a little while, but after a few minutes, hes either tired of holding out hand, or im sure hispoor little arm is tired...
3. He LOVES his freedom, when were out in the fron tyard and hes running around by himself while i watch, hes such a happy go lucky boy... Im not bothering him, and hes got his freedom.
4.I think it will teach him to stay close to us in public, he needs to learn that just running offisnt a good idea at all.

She also statedinher blog, Its not like im walking him around the block and relieving himself on the grass like my german shepard Nani would do, but just when were out and about, for instance, at astore, a resuraunt...

So what i would like to know, is what areyour takes on them? I want to get one thisfriday when i get paid, i just dont want the snotty comments, because honestly all im trying to do is keepEthan safe.

I really think leashes on children is distasteful.

I have one. The only reason we have it is to keep him from running out in front of cars and to make sure no one can kidnap him.
I could really care less what anyone else thinks. I know my son will be safe.

I wouldnt use one, well I suppose Ill see when that time comes. Id rather see a kid on a leash like that then running around trashing the store like I see often

I have mixed feelings about those.. I completely understand why you would want one and how they would be useful.. But I'm not too fond of "leashing children"

My SO and I agreed when our baby is old enough to wander off like that we will not be using one. I don't think poorly of the people using them, I do get a little giggle out of seeing it though.
I havea feeling my daughter will learn better to stay near us without a piece of fabric tying her to us. I feel the more rules and boudaries like that you set up, the more curious they are to try and see what happens when you break them.
I think if my child was accustomed to being on one and for some reason it broke while we were out, or we forgot it, that he/she not being used to having a little freedom would take way too much advantage of it.
Thats just my opinion. I think it really is a personal choice though.
If your little cutie is a wanderer, then maybe for safety it would be a good idea?

I've heard stories of kids who could get out of the harness and would run off when mom wasn't looking in their direction. I personally teach my children that if they aren't going to hold my hand they have to have one of their hands touching me at all times. I can feel how close they are but they don't have to keep their hand up to be held. I guess I just figure that every mom looks the other way for a minute or two and I'd rather not rely on a harness to keep them safe.

It's actually called a "safety harness". I don't think of it as being for an animal any more than I would think of a crib as a kennel or a play yard as a dog run.

I realize this. I fully intend on teaching my lo to stay by my side. I was only saying Id rather see someone keep teir lo on a leash than LET them run around.
