I started giving him a sippy cup half full of water-4 oz??? at about 8 months to let him practice using a sippy. He doesn't drink it all, but it's given him the hang of it. Now, he loves to drink from my water glass, it must taste much better than the water in his sippy...lol

Dr. Sears say FF babies benefit from one bottle of water a day. so, if they drink 6oz bottle, 6 oz of water is good. We just have a sippy around with water and she drinks what she wants.

Why not? I let my little rat drink out of my glass of water around 8 months for "no reason"

TECHNICALLY, children under 12 months need nothing but formula or breastmilk.. the only time youre supposed to give a child water is if they are constipated, and thats SOMETIMES.

if it's really hot, its okay to give it to them to.. like if youre outside in hot weather for a long period of time.

babies get their hydration from their milk, i don't know why that other girl said to keep them from getting hydrated. milk doesnt have caffeine in it to dehydrate them, lol.

The water issu is debatable. Many pedis, including Dr. Sears in The baby Book recommend water for FF babies (not BF babies). Several developed countries also have water as part of their guidelines. Some water given to healthy, growing babies is fine or perhaps helpful. It's certainly not harmful.

Sure. I have heard of it but that happens when dumbasses try to stretch their formula dollars. If you read what i said in my 2 posts in this thread, the water is in small amounts and only for healthy, growing babies. In small amounts it will not interfere with the baby's electrolyte levels or fill them so much that they wont drink their formula. The recommendations are reasonable.

I am well aware they don't "need" it. And its very unhealthy to "suppliment" water in place of milk of formula. But giving a few sips as a treat is hardly "bad" for an 8 month old.

Dramatic...big difference between a couple of sips and dumping gallon of water into your kid.
