My 3 month old will not nap...

posted 3rd Nov
Not only that, but the last few days he has started waking at 2 or so, when he has been sleeping through the night for over a month.

I think its all connected, like he would sleep better at night if he was taking naps. The problem is that he fights sleep. He is obviously exhausted, but will only fall asleep on my breast, and I work full time. Anyone have any ideas for setting up a nap schedule?

no nap schedule ideas. but maybe he's going thru a growth spurt and just feels like he needs to eat/drink more? at about near 3-4months some moms add just a little bit of the rice cereal to bottles so its a little more filling. i know it seems you're breastfeeding but that's all my 2cents were worth today.... wish i could help more.

Oh man mama! I feel your pain. Lee didn't sleep through the night until he was almost 6 months old. Before that he would wake at least twice a night and I work full time.

Does he go to a sitter or daycare during the day? They should try to keep him on a nap schedule.

ETA: I would only do cereal in the bottle if his pedi recommends it for medical reasons like reflux.

Worst advice ever, sorry. Rice cereal in bottles is a choking hazard. Rice cereal should ONLY be eaten from a spoon, and only after 6 months of age.

OP: Im going through something similar, but for Aidan it appears to be a combination of the 3 mont growth spurt and teething. I havent been able to do much other than nurse and comfort him. I dont recommend any methods that claim to get baby on a perfect schedule either, since most of them (especially the "baby wise" method if it happens to be suggested to you) have been called out as dangerous by the aap and linked with FTT.

There isn't much you can do about the fighting sleep part except comfort him when needed and he'll eventually fight til he can't anymore. I think the rice cereal in the bottle thing is entirely too much for a 3 month old. Everybody has their opinions about feeding cereal out of a bottle. I fed oatmeal to my son out of the bottle for about a month starting at 4 months and he never choked once...and he would go to sleep much quicker at times. I guess you're going to have to just sorta deal with the fighting. From what I've heard..most babies do it. Mine has just started doing it EVERY NIGHT and he just turned 6 months. I dread night time now.

I would not do the rice cereal... we arent starting any solids until after 6 months.

I dont think he is going through a growth spurt, only bc he isnt really eating more. He wakes up in the night once, but just for comfort. I do nurse him at that time, but he doesnt eat much... just wants his mommy   and I am happy to oblige.

My biggest concern is that he is grumpy all day from being sleepy. He doesnt have a sitter, he is home with dad all day (we have opposite schedules). He literally cries most of the day, and its that whiney sleepy cry.

I dont buy into any books that try for a rigid schedule, but I do have "no cry sleep solution"... it doesnt go into naps a whole lot, but I know she also has 'no cry nap solution', they dont have it at my library though, and I wont be able to pick it up until Friday.
