Failed Induction

posted 3rd Nov
I went into the hospital for Prostin gel induction and 39 +5 and have 3 doses if 1mg Prostin over 3 days. It did not cause my cervix to ripen or change in any way to make me favorbale for labor, so I went home. I am scheduled to go back at 40+5 and try again. My only issue is that if my cervix is still closed and 3 more doses do not work then they will give me a c section. It is not medically needed for me to have a c section, the baby is fine. I am thinking of refusing the next round of Prostin if I have not progressed, which will be against the doctor's wishes. The doctors and midwives keep saying, "We don't like to induce people and send them home." Well, I don't want a c section for no good reason. Has anyone ever been given 6 doses of 1 mg Prostin and still not shown any progress of a ripening cervix? Please help, I go in Friday this week. I'm very worried.

I've never had this happen but stick to your guns. There's no reason for you to have a c-section. It sounds like they want the baby to come on their time, not baby's.

I have not had that experience, but why dont the consultants just let you go into labor naturally.??? As you can see I too am waiting for baby. I will have to have a c section next week because I have already had one with my twins.

I hope you have some progress soon. Labor dust to you.

If u dont progress by the time ur 2 weeks over due and u still show that ur not progressing then u will have a c-section after they try to induce they dont like to send u home because of the side effects and what can happen after they try to induce as they dont want to be sue'd

i was induced with Mia and they started off with the gel crap and after 3 trys it didnt work but they refused to send me home. they put me on a drip next and after a shitty 72 hour labour i eventually had her but they were 10 minutes away from a c-section.
why are they inducing you and not letting baby come when its ready?

Why are they inducing you anyway? I say wait until you're 42 weeks.

Sorry, forgot to say the induction reason is that I have Symphisis
Pubic Dysfunction (SPD) and that is why an induction was thought to be a good idea, by me and the midwives/doctor. However, I will gladly deal with the major hip pains rather than have a c section. I know they don't want to get sued, but I'll sign a waiver if I decide to go home again after Friday. I am thinking I'll wait until just before I am 42 weeks for another induction if my cervix is still shut on Friday. Since the baby is not in distress, as of now, there is no reason for a c section, except, it's what the hospital prefers. Thanks for any shared experience and/or opinions.

Stick to your guns girl!! I had to have an emergency c-section when my LO heart heart dropped to the 20-30 range with each contraction  while I am so happy he is  safe and sound i was seriously depressed over missing the whole brith-bonding experience. If your LO is happy let them be, a c-section for no other reason than they don't want you to leave after a failed induction is crazy IMO.  It will be worth the wait!! Goodluck!

Did you have a c section after 25 hours of labor or was it 'normal'?

Did the drip open your cervix? The reason they wont give me the drip before the cervix is open is because they said it starts contractions, but does not open the cervix...and that would definately lead to cesarean. I'm confused about it all.

to be totally honest with you i dont remember what it did other than hurt like a bitch !!
i would rather have a c-section than go through what i did. the drip makes your contractions come so strong and fast they seem to be on top of each other.
after 71 hours they got me all ready for a c-section i was even in the theatre ready to go and they got her out just in time without needing to cut me open.
but if they even thought about offering me an induction this time i think i would punch someone.
if you dont want to be induced and feel you can cope with the pain in your hips then stick to your guns and tell them that you want to wait until your baby decides its time.
