Orlistat.. has anyone ever been on it?

posted 3rd Nov
And did it work for you?

My BMI is 34.4 which puts me in the obese catagory for my height.
In the past 2/3 years I have lost on average only about 30lbs, but now I'm at a complete stand still, the past 7 months I have not been able to get past my 'plateu' weight, I managed this once and then it shot straight back up by 2lbs.

I exercise for around 60 minutes a day and eat very healthily. But I just cannot shift the spare tyre.
I know I could well be building up muscle, but I don't go on weight alone, I measure in inches every week and there is no significant changes.

I'm eligible for the pill Orlistat.. but I want to know if it's worth the side effects.. which are Urgency to get to the toilet, Frequent Wind, Oily and sometimes smelly stools etc.. but in most cases they only occur IF you go and eat something fatty.. so the idea is to steer well clear of that sort of stuff.

Has anyone ever been on it? Would you recommend it?

Those are treatment effects. They should only happen if you go off your diet. And they help you know when your diet isn't good.

I started using it a week ago. I haven't had any major issues. I'm not really sure that it's working either though. We'll see.

That's what I thought.

I'm just sick of struggling with my weight, it's causing depression and major anxiety attacks too. All of which I know would be more or less sorted if I lost the weight and gained confidence from it.

Let me know how you get on with it

i was on it for over a month until i found out i was pregnant.

i have a bmi of 38
i was really hyped up to try it and found some reviews online and they said great things.. losing a stone in a month etc.
well in my first month i lost 3lbs
i was very discouraged.

there are also some very nasty side effects if you do slip up or eat something with hidden fats it can get very messy

Apparently slow weightloss on it can be because you don't consume enough fat? Yeah I've been looking on those sort of sites and seen nothing but praise AS LONG as you stick to it completely.

I think I may go ahead with it   I'm nearly 14stone again.. I need to be 10!!

I take Alli. It works. In 3 months, I lost 30 pounds with diet alone. I didnt exercise like I should. I am plateauing now, tho. I blame my husband tho. He lost his job, so he is cooking and he wont cook healthy food. Ugh. As long as you watch your fat intake, you wont have the treatment effects.

I can't afford Alli tablets though. Orlistat is only available through prescription here.. not sure if it's the same there?

I didn't know that!
And yes I get free prescriptions so I may as well try that route first.
