clogged milk duct

i'm pretty sure i have a clogged milk duct in my right boob.
theres a huge lump and its red....and to make it worse my nipple is also cracked on that side so when i pump to get it completely empty it bleeds.

ughh FML.

this breastfeeding thing is just as hard as i thought it would be, and obviously i'm doing something wrong if my boob is inflamed and have a bleeding nipple!

i think i'm going to call the lactation nurse today to see if she could help me out because i don't want to give this up  

you poor thing sounds like your having a hard time. Make sure you take the time to check babys latch everytime she/he nurses. Sometimes its so much easier in the sleep deprivation to just stick them on there but if bubs isnt attached correctly your nips wont heal. for the blocked duct you can try massage. Best to do in a hot shower and massage from behind the lump towards the nipple. Also helps to offer the sore breast first at 2 feeds in a row and massage towards the nipple when your babe is nursing.. If you get a temp it has probably turned into mastitis which is a infection and needs antibiotics to clear it up.. Goodluck with it!

i googled it (lol) and it mentioned massage and to check my chunks latch when she's on.

so far i'm thinking the latch is probably whats wrong.

I also recommend to change up the feeding positions and to massage the lump in a round and downwards way whilst feeding.

keep feeding off that breast, the milk moving thru your ducts will help clear the clog. Are you running a fever by chance? It may be mastistis.

i had the problem when i first got my milk. i was engorged and baby wouldnt feed. do u know how to hand express? its less painful than pumping or nursing. take some oil and rub your breast around the clot and milk will come out so have a cup or something ready! i got my clog out doing this.
