Sorry if this sounds stupid im just so curious as to what excatly happeneds after the baby is out....

Passing the placenta took no more than a minute, it just felt weird, not painful. The worst part for me was when the nurse was checking me for any tearing or internal injuries......ouch

I'm guessing it took about fifteen minutes for me to deliver my placenta. I wasn't sure what the doc was doing because I couldn't feel it, so I asked if he was stitching me up or something, lol. Aside from that, the nurses administer azithromycin drops in the babys eyes, do the weight and APGAR scoring, clean baby up, sometimes give oxygen and put them under a heat lamp. It all depends on the delivery and the baby when born. After all the action subsides, they pretty much just leave you alone. They check to make sure you can pee, bring ice packs and meds if need be, help you bathe if need be, massage your uterus through your stomach, take your vitals, etc.

personally they had to deliver my placenta and then they pushed on my stomach alot and then sewed me up from my episiotomy(sp?) the whole time I was bonding with my baby and not really paying attention and didn't feel anything.....after that they cleaned me up some, changed all the stuff underneath me and then maybe an hour or so they moved me to another room, the nurse helped me get to the restroom because I had to pee and she helped me get on some mesh type panties and gave me some long ice pack things to wear inside to help and some huge diaper sized pads. You bleed after, way worse then any period imaginable. Then she showed me how to clean down there with a squirt bottle thing. helped me back to bed and then brought my baby back to my room.......Good luck once you actually have your baby you tend not to pay attention to what is going on so much. However I was so amazed at how much I bled and how nasty it truly was and no one really prepared me for it but you tend to not think of it since you are so happy your LO is finally here!

The placenta only took a couple of seconds to come out, like a push or two. Then they sew you up if you tear and make sure everything is still where it belongs. Then they put you in a mesh underwear and the biggest pad you will ever wear. Then a nurse assists you to the bathroom to make sure your bowel and all that good stuff are okay and that you're not in too much pain and give you meds if you are in pain.

They stopped the epidural... and then I ate cheesecake while they were stitching me up =)

As far as the passing the placenta goes... my doc pulled mine out by the cord.... it didnt pass on its own. But I didnt feel it either... and it was HUGE!

So, basically... take out catheter, push 3 times, birth baby while pooping, end epidural, birth placenta, eat homemade cheesecake (because you cant eat at all during epi)/get stitched up while baby is being cleaned/monitored (cord was around her neck 4 times)... get baby back a few minutes later... and breastfeed =)

That was pretty much it. Piece of *cheese*cake!! =) lol

That was pretty much

We don't get the mesh undies here, and have to supply our own pads   But I did get to have a shower and then eat dinner afterwards.

The placenta coming out isn't painful at all. It came out a couple minutes after he did. It was uncomfortable to have them pressing on my stomach to help it come out, but not painful. Then they thoroughly examined it to make sure it looked all normal.

I tore REALLY bad, so it took them a long time down there stitching me back up. I got to hold my little boy for a few minutes, then they took him to the other side of the room to weigh and clean him a little. He laid with me while they did my stitches, then he was offered a chance to nurse for about 15 minutes. He wouldn't do it and they said it was normal.

About an hour after birth, they took him to the nursery and me to the pp ward.

OH YEAH! They push your stomach all the way down, until your spine practically breaks, and your stomach touching the bed! Literally! Worst part of it ALLLLLLLL!!!!

the placenta doesn't hurt (but I had the epi) and it only takes like 10 seconds..you just push one more time and it's out in one push. my doc asked if I wanted to see it..it actually looked cool, I mean I thought it was interesting to see it so you might want to if you're not easily disgusted. it's just like a big purple blueish blob.
and they check if you tore and stuff and if you did they stitch you and then they push on your tummy to get all the remaining "stuff" out and that's about it besides cleaning you all up of course.. and they also put thecatheteron me to drain all the pee cause they give you TONS of fluids if you have the epi and you won't be able to get up and go potty for a while

yeah it was crazy.....good thing I didn't really feel any of it just pressure!!! The worse thing happened to me while they were stitching me up...someone accidentally let my brother and dad think they could come in and they opened the door looked at me spread eagle getting stitched and turned right around. At that point I had to laugh about it but sometimes I wonder what exactly they saw!
