Frustrated baby name thing!

posted 2nd Nov

Of course SO always has something to say when it comes to baby names. "Oh well it rhymes with snot, though!" [just an example, not something he actually said]. "I actually knew Kimberly in high school; and a Dylan; and a JimBobDillyBar."

Bleh!

Question: do you guys like the name Cillian? It would be for a boy, and it would be pronounced Kill-EE-en.

eta: if y'all don't like it, please tell me why. I don't like "It just sounds weird", so that's out.

honestly, i thought cillian-- based on the appearance would've been pronounced "Sillian", which i don't like.

killian, now, that's alright.

I LOVE that name, but I prefer the spelling Killian.
Cillian looks like it should be said sill-ian, and that reminds me of cilia.

Oh godddd. *drags hands down face*

I actually like this name! I told SO it came to me exactly like our daughter Iris' name came to me. Just popped in my head one day and won't leave, and I've become attached.

Sure it's still possible we'll end up with another girl, but I can dream!

It has to be with a C, though! My older cousin - all 3 of her kids' names start with a K, and my SO's name is Kenneth and he doesn't want any K's.

LOL @and a JimBobDillyBar."

and no Im not a fan of that name. because of the Kill part. it just has a negative connotation to it or something. i think it will give people this face  and its hard to spell out. i thought it said silly-en.

but i can relate my SO did the same thing

aaaand that's why i liked it... after i posted, i remembered that it was a beer.

yeah, on second thought-- probably not such a great name for a kid, but eh, i'm half-half on it.

don't let the beer factor sway you, if you like it, YOU like it.

I do not like the name, but that is just because I thought it was pronounced differently, Sil-lee-en which to me just does not sound nice at all.
Isn't another way of spelling the name perhaps so that people would know it what meant to be pronounced as Kill-EE-en?

Here's an example of what I mean:

When I was pregnant the first time around, I adored the name Saraiah for a girl. Yeah the spelling is like 'Whoa!' but I felt like I'd come up with it on my own so yeah. Anywho.

Kenneth and I were walking out of school one day, and we both realized that 'Saraiah' could have an evil nickname attached to it on the playground one day: psoriasis. So it was out.

I want his help in naming #2 because he barely had anything to do with naming Iris, but he's still just being stuffy!

its not a big deal, the whole beer name thing. i think there is a way to make fun of or to compare a name to something no matter what it is. my sons name is colin and my grandparents still to this day(hes 5) call him colon. lol so it happens no matter what your name is.
