my 8 week has diarreah every time and sunken soft spot

posted 2nd Nov
so today i noticed my babies soft spot inthe fron t of his head was kind of depressed/sunken in slightly. to the point i had never even noticed it was there before, and now i felt a soft indent....anyhow- i read and it says could be dehydration. my son is 9.5 pounds to maybe 10 (ill know at his 2 month appointment on fri) and he drinks 3.5-4 ounces of formula every feeding, ive been giving him 1 feeding of breastmilk a day (thats all im producing) anyhow- he poops rarely, maybe 2 times ina 24 hour period or 1 huge one. anyhow every time its a huges blow out of diarreah and usually greeninsh gray in color. is this normal? do formula fed babies have different poop. could he be dehyrated from the poop even tho its not that often and he is drinking enough. HELP im freaking out and need to know if this is normal or if i should take him asap to the hopsital or wait til friday for his appt????

He is dehydrated if his soft spot is sunken. I would call your doctor, or even go in...he might need an IV to be replenished with fluids. Good luck!

I would take him to the doctor just to be safe... If he still has diarreah tomorrow I'd call the doctor.

That is usuallya sign of severe dehydration. He needs to see a dr soon. They may recommend he goes to the er to get IV fluids

Well, I would say that the fact that it "might" be sunken, he is drinking less, and also has diarrhea would be enough that he should probably be seen. At 8 weeks you really don't want to mess with dehydration.

Aww, hun. I know it is scary....but calling your doctor will get you the answers you need. He will be ok...if he is dehydrated, they can easily replenish him via an IV. I will keep you guys in my thoughts, and hope he is just fine. I always say better safe than sorry. Luckily, my dad is a doctor, so I call him like 239483 times a month with medical questions. Good luck to you guys!

p.s. I always keep some of those mini bottles of pedialyte for when my son is sick. I'm not sure about an 8 week old though, he may be too young. They will help him out if he is dehydrated....you could ask your doc about that when they call.

My sons soft spot looked like it was sunken, but he's fine. If you're really worried, take him to the doctor.

Oh yeah, duh! I forgot to tell you another way to tell if he is dehydrated is to see if he has wet diapers. Sounds like he is probably all right.

I totally understand about 1st time mom stuff! I call my pedi or my dad (a doctor) every few weeks with questions. I'm sure they are used to it. And like I said before, better safe than sorry!
