moving. from the states to canada.

posted 2nd Nov
The Hubby and I have decided to move around and see where we like it. Where we would feel comfortable raising our child. We were both born and raised in Los Angeles. Now living by Chicago. So now I want to see whats next. Ive always wanted to live in Canada and luckily his company has a ramp in Vancouver BC. So I was wondering how much rent would average there? Is there alot of cultural differences? I'm just wondering if it would be a difficult transition. Do we have to get citizenship in order to get a work permit? How much does daycare cost?

You can't just up and move to Canada. You actually have to have a job lined up before you can go, be from there, or have family there.

Ofcourse. His job would transfer him there when the opportunity is presented.

Lucky ass, I wish Walgreens would go internationally so we have a chance to move somewhere new. But then again, no other country really needs a Walgreens.

If you're going through his company his HR will deal with all the legal paperwork.

Just to answer some questions about Vancouver. It is a gorgeous city and there are many options for cities to live in other than Vancouver, depending on how far you want to commute. It has a very diverse culture but with many more asians and east indians than any other culture (besides white). I am sure if you googled Vancouver tourism websites, you'd be able to find out a lot more information. As for housing and daycare, from what I remember and from what family tells me, it's pretty average. Again, google can be your friend to help you find a base range for those costs.

im from van! I love it here so much!! rent here is pretty expensive though. It depends entirely on where you want to live though. You should browse rentals on craigslist. My SO are looking for a 2bedroom f=right now we are hoping to find one for $1000 in a good area but we will see. average nice 2 bedroom in a nice neighbourhood maybe 1200-1500. My friend just found a daycare for $750 which is $200 cheaper than where she was going b4. I dont know much about immigration. PM me if you want

Vancouver is great! I've lived in North Van. all my life so i don't really have anything to compare the rent to, but from what ive heard from people who have moved here, its ridiculously expensive.... I used to pay $871 for a super shitty one bedroom apartment (great location though) and now pay $1250 for a 2 bedroom basement suite. As for daycare, haven't looked into that yet!! Good luck, feel free to PM me with any questions!

I really dont like it. Its a big change. I was born in raised in the city and I'm living in the suburbs. Aside from that the freaking cold. I havent even experienced a whole winter but god it gets cold. And the snow really sucks. I miss California dearly.

That's what I heard. My mom is from IL but we've never been back when it's hella cold out. People say I'm crazy for wanting to move there.
