My heart is breaking!

Today a good friend of mine had to take her 10yrd old son off of life support.
When I first met him he was such a happy child. It was hard to believe he was a child with Cystic fibrosis (CF). He had stopped eating and had hit a lowest weight of 35lbs. He just finally let go this morning arround 3am. At that point she had them place him on the life support. She just wasnt ready to let go. Then before 11 am she signed the paperwork and they took him off. She said he went very quickly and didnt suffer through his last moments.

It breaks my heart to even think about what I would do if I had been in her place. My daughter will be 4months old on the 16th, and I am ever so thankful every day that she is so happy, and healthy, and so good.

She has been sleeping through the night since 6 wks old. Only time she fusses or cries is when she wants something or needs something. She wakes with a smile, and goes to sleep sometimes laughing. I just can't even begin to imagine losing my baby to an inherited disease.

To all you mommas with a child that has CF...You all are in my prayers.

To those who dont know what CF is, it is an inherited disease that causes thick, sticky mucus to build up in the lungs and digestive tract. It is one of the most common type of chronic lung disease in children and young adults, and may result in early death.
My heart breaks for my friend and for the other CF mommas out there.

That is so sad....my heart breaks for your friend & her little boy as well & every other family struggling through the same thing.

I'm going to give my kids an extra kiss when I tuck them in tonight and make sure that they know how much I love them.

Please pass my deepest condolences to your friend. I have lost 2 babies early in pregnancy and that devastated me, I have no idea if I would be strong enough to even get out of bed if I had to go through that. Tell your friend that my thoughts are with her and I hope that she finds the strength to get through this. And, although it may not seem like much right now while the grief is still at its strongest, she had 10 wonderful years with him and from those ten years she has numerous happy memories of her son. Those happy memories will help her when her grief is the strongest. Please tell her that I am sorry for her loss.

for any mamas of children with CF who read this, don't ever lose hope that your child can live a normal life. my cousin was diagnosed with CF at about four years old. she spent her childhood in and our of the hospital, off and on what her doctors thought would eventually be her deathbed. she's now a happy and completely healthy 23 year old woman.

Ditto to your post. I know a few CF healthy survivors. Keep the faith.
