Working with Fondant for the first time

My sisters 18th birthday is next week and since she has to work i want to make her a really nice cake to bring up to the restaurant to surprise her with (she specifically asked me not to, HA)

anyway is it hard to use, she's always wanted a cake like the ones you see on the cake shows so I'm going to try my best.

any tips? should i practice first?

Well it's nothing like playdoh that's for sure. My mom has been making cakes for a really long time & hasn't even tried to master fondant yet lol. You have to like... perfect it. I'd say practice for sure!

its not bad, yes practice first, make sure its room temp.... but remember that it doesnt taste GREAT......

make your own, it tastes a lot better, google how to make it. And yes practice, its hard. Good luck!

also you can make the fondant a day ahead and store it in the fridge.

It's not too bad to work with. There is a recipe around here somewhere on the boards. Mandi posted it hmm I tried it and it was amazing!

its easy!!!!!!!!! just make a trial one first!! and do the white chocolate chip marshmallow one it does taste yummy!!!!!!

that looks great. she wants a 2 tier square cake so im assuming it would be a lot easier then what you made!

Yes! Talk to her. She has the recipe I'm sure still. I looked and couldn't find where it was posted and I lost my copy.   I suck at life these days.

oh did you buy it that flavor or did you make it yourself

Ive mastered the art of making buttercream look so thick it looks like fondant. Ive yet to master the art of liking the taste of fondant. lol
