military mamas:lo meeting daddy

posted 2nd Nov
Hey ladies I have a few questions. How did your LO's act after not seeing daddy for awhileor just meeting him for the first time?
Did they care if daddy took over some of the things you used to do?
How long did it take for your LO to form a bond with Daddy?

Kaden was 2 weeks old when Daddy left and 15 months when he came home.
Kaden FREAKED. OMG. He screamed. He wanted nothing to do with him. It took about 6 hours at home of them playing on the ground before Scott could hold him without him crying and that was only for short amounts of time. It took about 2 weeks before he was able to do stuff that I did without Kaden freaking out on him. Now they are best buds.

My son was 2 when his dad got back from iraq. He hadn't seen him for 18 months. At first he was scared of him. But what helped was i would show him alot of pictures of his dad and tell him daddy would be coming home soon. My husband would take my son to the park and just spend alone time with him. Then my son just came around and got used to him.

My daughter was 6months the first time. So after like a day she was used to him. Now she will be 2 and a half when he gets home and I think it'll be easy. She was so happy to see him over R&R in September. I think it was easy since we skyped alot and I have pics everywhere. We also incorporate daddy into everything.

Tobias actually did great. It was like he never left. I don't know but I'm pretty sure it helped that I constantlly talked about daddy, watched videos with him and pointed out pictures of daddy all the time. Plus josh would use a little bit of his call time to talk to tobi. he also made a video that tobi would watch sometimes.

I'm not a military mom but my LO didn't get to meet my SO until she was 4 months old. I still did most of the stuff but she reacted very well to him. She even slept better at night while he was in the room sleeping with us.

Now he will be up again for Thanksgiving, 2 days before she turns 8 months. She is older and more aware and starting to go through some stranger anxiety now so I'm a bit nervous how it will go. He'll be here the 21st.

My sister in-law daughter was small when her husband left for a year. It took months for them to be best buds. The hardest thing now is convincing her that he will come back every time he has to deploy.

I did all the videos, pictures, web cam, phone calls. Everything. It still didn't work for us. I think it just depends on your child as well.

My daughter was 6 months when my husband came home and she cried the whole time we were waiting from them to be released because it was 4 in the morning. As soon as we got to see him and he held her she stopped crying. It was SO perfect. I thought it was going to be a nightmare but she never had a problem from that point on. Now she's definitely daddys little girl. I can't even think about him leaving again though.

I'm really hoping he doesn't though because he's very social with everyday people.

Its going to hurt him but he will get past it. Just let him know before hand he might. Scott knew b/c Kaden has always been afraid of strangers.
